Start with the match lists for schools that you're accepted to. Even then, match lists are super hard to read into and get anything actionable out of - so much of it likely comes down to the individual preferences for certain specialties and individual competitiveness of their application.

Any T40 will do you fine. Stratifying between that is pointless and neurotic. Pay more attention to locale/match locations if you have acceptances above that threshold.

Doesn’t matter unless you want to pursue academic medicine
I've heard about T20 and academic medicine stuff but would you mind explaining more about it? Do people who graduated from T20 (or T10) have more competitive advantage than let's say T21-T40 schools? Just that I not very informed on this topic.

I have heard various definitions and I’m not sure if mine is exactly correct, but to me academic medicine usually refers to clinicians who practice and conduct research at teaching hospitals and or medical schools as opposed to private practice. believe that the term mainly applies to tenure track positions but I’m not sure if it includes non-tenure track physicians, lecturers, researchers etc.

I think that prestige is very important for academic medicine compared to other types of practice. Ceteris paribus, the person who went to JHU and did residency at the Mayo Clinic would have an advantage over somebody who went to say BU (no disrespect for BU, but that’s the first school that is good but not quite T20 that popped into my head) when applying for tenure track positions. However, if the BU person was a more prolific researcher and was able to bring in more grant money, he/she would get the job.

Premeds are just built different I guess. 🤷‍♂️

I recommend posting which two specialties you are interested in and asking the question in the respective SDN residency forums.

But not right now, think 3 years down the line. lol.
