There's a PI at my university whose research I'm interested in. The thing is he has the exact same first name as me. It's not a common name like Jeff or Tom, but a traditional Asian Indian name that is not common at all in the U.S. As a fake example, let's just say both our first names are Rajesh.
1. Would it be unusual for me to reach out even though we share a first name? He is a leading expert in his field, and it's research I'm genuinely interested in.
2. What would adcoms think? Would I have to clarify anything when I list their name on my application? Or if they were writing me a LOR for instance? I know I'm talking about the same first name, not the same last name, but I wouldn't want an adcom to be suspicious of anything haha.
