Might be a stupid question, but I figured I'd ask. I am white, female, low income, born in Europe but grew up in the US (english not first language). My minor is in African & African American Studies, and I am getting a (i expect quite good) rec from a prof in this department as well. My app is very service oriented. Can i make a case for schools that admit mostly Black applicants? I really do feel like the mission lines up but I am white
Medical students from schools like Meharry and Morehouse are not 100% Black. The non-Black medical students there likely have similar backgrounds as you. So you should apply if you fit their mission and have a competitive application. Just my thoughts.

Having that major isn't good enough. You'd need tons of service to communities of color to be competitive.

Note: 10% of the classes at the HBCs are Asian-American, so it's doable!

what would you qualify as 'tons'? I have about 600 hours of education related service over 3 years to local title 1 schools as well as a VP position for this program for 2 years. I also volunteered w Americorps for a summer with minority populations part time (~200 hours). Will be doing americorps in my gap year but obviously thats not set yet.

edit: title 1 schools are qualified through percentage of students being low income, but where I am an extremely large majority (close to 90%) are Black students
You're 800 hours sounds like tons to me. Continue doing so

It seems like you fit the mission of HBCU med schools and have the ECs to back it up, so I believe it's worth applying. The 15-20% of HBCU med students who are non-Black tend to be students like you.

You would have a great chance at Morehouse if you have the stats.
