My PI (a PhD researcher) said that for PhD programs calling the top choice can sometimes help get applicants off the waitlist, and offered to do the same for my top choice MD program. She wanted to know what to mention since MD is different than PhD. If any of you all have had experience with this, can you please advise on what to tell my PI/what she should include in the call? Thanks in advance!
Do not say, "Didn't you get my bribe?" 🙂

It is different for Ph.D. admissions where this type of contact from the PI assuring a Ph.D. program director/faculty that you are a "diamond in the rough" may have some sway, especially if the writer knows people at the Ph.D. department. MD/DO admissions is usually less influenced by such letters.

Go back to the AAMC pamphlet on writing letters of evaluation. If the PI did not submit an LOE for your packet, go with that information. If the PI is adding information, make an appropriate revision.

That said, I will repeat, MD/DO admissions is not usually influenced by such late letters. The waitlist is pretty much locked and set into stone by this time of year, and we just wait for CYMS movement to begin (soon).
