Thank you for your response! Would you suggest I retake my MCAT in early August while applying this cycle or would that hurt my chances even more? I feel like my EC's and GPA are pretty strong overall but I feel like my application is taking a huge blow due to my MCAT score.

The problem with retaking the MCAT is that there is data showing that half of those who retake the MCAT with your score have a new score that is lower, the same or minimally higher.

I see... Thank you for letting me know. Do you think my EC's and GPA can make up for my below average MCAT score as an Asian? I have very strong ties to UMich including those in admissions so I'm wondering if I could possibly have a good chance there despite my stats. Also I was wondering which schools you listed would be considered target vs reach. Thank you so much!

Most of the schools I listed are target schools. U Michigan, Western Michigan and St. Louis are reaches with your MCAT of 509. You have a high GPA and very good ECs so you should receive several interviews, especially from the Michigan schools.

I will keep that in mind. Thank you so much for the advice!!!

That's not how admissions works. Below average MCAT scores don't make up for strong GPA's regardless of your race/ethnicity. Your EC's could show more of a mission fit that could keep your application under review.

How many applicants from UMich apply to UMMS who have "strong ties"? I suspect it's around 200. Maybe half of them will be in your situation (below average MCAT). But Michigan doesn't want half of its class filled with former traditional undergrad applicants from UM. (Unless something has changed with their new admissions leadership...)

That’s certainly true… Do you think I still have a good chance at getting into a top 100 MD school this cycle or should I take another gap year, withdraw my applications and retake the MCAT to get a higher score and increase my chances? I got my mcat score a few days ago and am in the middle of drafting secondaries but finding out I scored much lower than expected has been really demotivating and makes me question if it would even be worth continuing this cycle :// Apologies for the rant

You are basing your decision on a theoretical much higher MCAT score, which may or may not occur. You are fine to apply now.

You removed your profile... your chances are all on your mission fit. Considering there are roughly 140 MD schools... 509 isn't disqualifying, but I don't know what schools you really have a strong affinity for. No clue without your experiences in detail.

I re-added my profile just now! Would it be possible to take a look at it and let me know your thoughts? My application mainly focuses on serving homeless populations and a strong emphasis on the intersection between mental health and physical wellbeing, hence my involvement in mental health services in addition to clinical work and starting a mental health program at the homeless shelter. Thank you!!

I would lean into your experience with homeless and mental health. All your in-states are in play IMO. Get those secondaries done, and check other schools on your list that you can leverage your insights.
