I removed a letter of intent (T20 that values letters of intent) prior to acceptance because there is another school which I have received an invite from which I might like to go to if accepted. This school still remains tied for my top choice.

I simply deleted the letter from the portal and replaced it with a letter of interest. Given that they already gave me a post-interview score and will not revisit my application until mid-January (which they claimed is when they make decisions and the deadline by which to upload any LOI/update), will they know that I replaced it? And if they do, will it hurt me?
The IT folks will know it's been replaced, but without having insider knowledge at this particular school, no one will know what interface is seen by the admissions dean and senior staff.

So the answer to your last question is: yes, no, or maybe.. but most likely not.

Regardless, you've already made the switch, and no amount of worrying will change its (likely negligible) effect on your application. So better to focus your energy on the things that are under your control. Best of luck and just my thoughts.

Thank you a lot I was tweaking the entire day

I never got accepted though? I didn’t break any binding agreement
I’m not saying you did anything wrong. You even probably meant what you said at the time. But frequently after an LOI is written, circumstances or opinions change, as they did here. That is why LOIs are meaningless.

Correction; this is why Admissions Deans treat them as lies.

I understand there are several applicants who send multiple letters of intent and also others who withdraw following an acceptance they had gotten after sending a letter of intent, which is obviously unethical. THOSE instances are what cause admissions members to mistrust LOIs. Being aware of those situations, I thought I had made the morally correct choice of removing it prior to them even reviewing it, and months before a decision is even made on my application, despite there being a risk of hurting my chances.

Nobody is attacking you personally or questioning your morals.

We are concretely saying that LOIs are worthless because even if they aren't outright lies (which sometimes they are), very frequently an applicant changes their mind or their circumstances change between when an LOI was sent and when it's time to matriculate.

@Muqsith You merely sent it too early, there being several months left in the application cycle you really couldn't know which is your intended school without knowing all the options.

Ah I see I interpreted everyone's posts incorrectly then

I think you are over-reacting. I don't think it will hurt you, and I'm not sure anyone would really care (see above).

as an aside, how do you know which of the t20 schools want letters of intent?
