It can be whatever you want it to be. To keep board certification, you will need to maintain hospital privileges. Requirements for privileges vary from hospital to hospital. I have privileges at two level two hospitals in the Los Angeles area and neither one has mandatory call. They will call me when they need me and I will go in if am available. It is fantastic.
