15-year-old performs surgery in India

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Murugesan told the medical association that he wanted to see his son’s name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Giant ego, anyone?

"Murugesan, who could possibly be prevented from practicing and face criminal charges for allowing his son to perform the operation, expressed no regret and accused the Manaparai medical association of being “jealous” of his son’s achievements, Prasad added."

😆

"Guys, I'm applying this year, and a couple of years ago my dad made me do surgery on this chick so I could get into the Guinness Book of World Records, and then he got his license taken away, and so now I'm wondering if the adcoms are going to hold this against me....should I mention to the adcom that I was performing surgery at age 15?"

Well, any monkey well trained could perform surgery. The beauty of medical education isn't only in the "doing" part of the job, but in the "understanding" concepts behind what is done, and also in having the expertise to make good decisions for each patient.

His dad let him perform the surgery...just to be in the guiness book of world records.

You know that IF this does get into the record books, other idiots will want their kids to break that record. Next thing you know, you'll have 5 year olds performing surgery under supervision.

No - we'll have people coming on and saying "I didn't perform my first surgery until I was 16. Will I still be able to get into a top 10 med school?"

No - we'll have people coming on and saying "I didn't perform my first surgery until I was 16. Will I still be able to get into a top 10 med school?"
And then we'll have the flame wars: "*I* did my first surgery at age 12, and you only at age 16! And who do you think is more qualified to be a surgeon!?"

Idiots for thinking that surgery should be done just to be in Guiness World Records.

Idiots for risking two lives: the mother and the baby

Idiots for thinking they will get fame for it.

maybe another qualification to be a "competitive applicant" in that other thread should be this:

-Performed a major surgery before Sweet Sixteen
