Hello,

I completed all premed prereqs between 2003-2006. Chose not to apply to med school back then for health reasons. But with a recent MCAT score in the 95% percentile range and being out of school for over 10 years, would it be better to retake premed courses or do an SMP with a medical school curriculum?

Thank you.

An SMP would be unadvisable unless your GPA is quite low. Assuming your GPA is ok, it really depends on the schools you want to apply to. If the schools on your list require prereqs to be completed within a certain timeframe then you would need to do that. If they require recent coursework you could enroll in 2+ courses per semester for two semesters and then be ready to apply by the 2021 cycle to matriculate in 2022. If the schools you want to apply to lack these requirements you’re good to go.

No SMP unless the GPAs are low. Take some upper lever science courses to get back into the groove of learning
