I am an AMG with 230+ for Step 1 and Step 2CK; CS pass 1st attempt. Applied to 40 programs, got 22 invites - I could only schedule 17 interviews max due to scheduling conflicts and rotation obligations.

I am not a good interviewer and have quite a bit of anxiety. I see on 2016 NRMP Charting the Outcomes that someone (Allopathic Senior) had >16 ranks and did not match for Neurology. I am now scared.

How likely is it that I do not match after ranking 17 programs?

If you look up 2016 charting the outcomes for allopathic seniors - there are people who ranked 15 and more than 16 programs but did not end up matching. Why couldn't that person be me?

If you have a major red flag in your application, you could rank 50 and still go unmatched. However, historical data show that ranking only 5 as a USMD gives you ~92% chance of matching. Ranking 15 gives you 98%. Now ask yourself, is going on 10 more interviews worth that extra 6% safety net? I say take the middle ground. Do more than 5 but definitely no more than 10.

If you're that worried about it, just interview at 1-2 average to below average programs to give yourself a backup plan. Should help eliminate some of the anxiety about not matching.

I'd guess because people are ranking programs they didn't even interview at.

Why would AMGs who understands the system do that?

If one does not interview well - would there be a possibility that they are ranked low on every interview - thus no match despite ranking 16+ programs?

Being an IMG, i have seen few IMG who dont get match with 10 to 15 interview calls. But thats mostly in Internal Medicine and they have some short comings like applying for programs who are not IMG friendly or have experienced visa in the past and are reluctant to provide visa.

I dont feel you have any Major issues
So you dont need to worry.
Else you can interview at few more middle tier programs to make yourself comfortable.

Some people got a failed CS result in February (too late to retake) and still ranked programs they interviewed at.. These are the people who ranked > 7 programs in IM/FM/neuro and did not match.

I thought nobody cares about CS for AMGs...also many program requires it not until October of intern year.

Never heard such thing. Don't you need step 1/2CK and a CS passing score to get a training license in all US states?

Admittedly, I know one IM program in NY who ranked a student at my school last year without having a CS result in... She ultimately passed anyway.

So CS fail is big enough deal for an AMG to not get ranked? I always thought no one cares about CS for AMGs..

They care, but don't care from what I have read. There was a case of a person with a 270 and a CS fail and had issues with getting interviews at top places (not sure what field). However, some programs would still rather have a person they know passed than a person who didn't. Even though they know the CS doesn't mean anything to them.

Does anyone know how postponing CS until january will affect my match in neuro. AMG. Interviewed at BID, Jefferson, Mount Sinai, NYU, and a nuber of other places . Plane got cancelled. Couldn't get to test site in time. Now I'm worried sick.

I remember this med student anxiety. I don't miss it.

It's tough to say. I would make it your highest priority to get a seat as soon as possible. Fly across the country if you have to. Some programs do care.
