Can you please provide the exact school names and more information? Please provide a more specific response.

Also, I'm asking for a friend and these aren't my stats and her stats aren't quite this low and this isn't all the information. I'm specifically asking for people who have these stats and what interviews they got and where they got in. If you don't have these stats, no need to comment.

Thanks,

You're asking the SDN community to do the legwork on this for you. You can easily go through school specific threads and find this information yourself. There is very low value provided in your thread. I would reject you too if you showed this type of aversion to putting in effort in your dental evaluation.

18 AA is the bottom of the barrel for these schools.

Since you went back to edit: it would probably be more efficient and helpful if you post her stats and "all the information". You're basically looking for a needle in a haystack.
Have your friend look through the ADEA book and/or Doc Toothache's guide. Both have an abundance of information that will help you. Don't be lazy. These things were compiled for a reason.

Thanks, I agree. I want to keep a few since stats are a bit higher, thinking of removing Columbia, UPENN, and UNC.

Whats your state residency?
VA

If they closed, they are definitely open now 🙂
Ya this is what I meant!

Ya whoops I realize my first response was a bit mean, lol...I didn't mean to generalize and call everyone out so I went back and edited to clarify what I meant in a more constructive fashion.

I'm not really looking to provide all of her information...I don't really think I want to "play that game" since I know how it goes...its less about her stats and *chances* and more about gathering people who have those two specific numbers (18AA and 3.5GPA) to inquire about their experiences applying.

I am slowly working my way through the 103 page application thread to find those 18AA's and 3.5 GPA people. I thought it would make sense to have one thread specifically devoted to this category of people (18AA and 3.5 GPA) since there are none (to my knowledge) that I could find. There are only "low DAT" score threads which I have also started walking through to find those 18AA and 3.5 GPA'ers.

Thanks again for the responses though.

Add western, touro, mwu-il, creighton.
If you are urm, meharry and howard as well. Dat retake will definitely benefit you greatly.

UF only accepts ~8 OOS students each year. They did not accept a VA student last year. The OOS students are above average, so I would personally save the money. During my interview, they said my sGPA was not high enough at a 3.58 even though my overall was a 3.83.

with a 18 GPA and 3.5 GPA, your stats/ur friend's stat/anyone's stats is average-below average at best.

if you get into dental school somehow, be prepared to attend the most expensive dental school aka 500k$ school (NYU, USC)

I'm proof that your statement isn't true. I only got a 20 AA.
I only got a 21 and am applying too. But being the non-urm that I am, not holding out much hope ha. And my GPA isn't nearly enough to shine up my DAT.

But good on you for getting in sir!

I'm not an URM either, but they really look at other things too (the supplemental is heavily weighted)!

If you didn't go to undergrad in Washington I wouldnt apply to university of Washington.

When I interviewed there they said they only accept people from Washington, WICHE states or people with ties to the area. They also have one of the most expensive secondary fees. Last year it was $100.

Can you give me some background on your stats (GPA, DAT, undergrad school, dental experience, etc.) and if/where you got interviews/admissions?

Thanks so much!
Sure!
- 18 AA, 19 PAT

- 100 hrs volunteering
- Asian (not born here), 1st generation going to college.
- Submitted mid August to 10 schools
- 3 interviews: late Nov = U of Colorado, early January = Roseman, mid Feb = MWU-IL
- 1 acceptance: MWU-IL.

Thanks so much! Great job! How did your of Col & Roseman interviews go? Did you want to go to either of those over MWU-IL?

wow! I know you feel grateful for that MWU-IL acceptance. No offense, just saying it because you only applied to 10 schools.

CO and Roseman have the traditional type of interview where they ask about your personal stuff but MWU-IL has MMI style (which I did way better because I'm not very comfortable with "selling" myself).
Also, CO was my first interview so I was pretty awkward. I did way better at Roseman but they have a giant applicant/interviewee pool and I was on the waitlist right after the interview (did not get off the list).
CO would be the best option if I got accepted because it's much closer to AZ and the total tuition is about $100-150K cheaper.
I love how nice everybody is in Salt Lake City but I felt like I didn't belong there, also Roseman is expensive.
Everything is good for me at MWU-IL but the tuition and cost of living is higher (IMO not as bad as other big cities like SF, NYC, LA, etc..). For example: near MWU-IL a studio is about $1100-$1300 on average, 2 beds/baths is about $1550-$1800.

A lot of applicants get in with an 18AA. It is a decent score and is not as bad as people on here make it out to be. Some schools have many students in the 17-18AA range, but weigh community service very heavily (AT Still).

I was about to say. I called a couple schools (AT STILL, Midwestern, New York) and they said anything within the 19 range +\- a point or two is fine. Obviously the higher the better, but if you have years of healthcare experience and working with patients, I feel they value that a lot too.

I took a Kaplan diagnostic test about a year ago and scored a 16 without any type of studying, and I had no idea what I was doing for PAT or what a PAT was. I did have a lot of organic chemistry knowledge and was pretty strong in it.

How much studying would you recommend to break a 20, all things considering?

for 20+, I suggest 2~3 months of solid studying. Solid studying meaing at least 5-7 hours a day.
I studied for 6 months because I was working full time and I was so tired after work couldn't study much, but watch chad's videos.
If you can just study without working a lot, 2~3 months should do it.

At least 300 hours of solid, effective studying. If you come to the point when you are hitting 20+ on at least 3 bootcamp full lengths and the 2007/2009 tests, you are most likely ready. You won't ever feel ready, that's how it is.

Nailed it bruh!

I only used the 2007/2009 tests, and I feel like all but the bio was much harder than the actual test. The questions were pretty much the same material, but I scored slightly higher on the bio portion than the practice tests. I was consistently hitting 21/22 on the RC section, but I scored 29 on the RC subsectionreal deal. That was a pleasant surprise, but it was a little terrifying (I was nervous for about a month that there had been an error).
I never scored higher than a 23 on the 2007/2009 tests, even on retakes, and I had a pretty rough start to my testing day.

Nah, just honest.
I know a list of at least 10 people who got into dental schools across the states with 18's. Obviously if youre applying to UPenn or Harvard, don't with those scores. But dental schools don't only look at your DAT come on

What is better, honesty or lying to somebody and having them waste money? I said 5 schools, not all of them.

no ones lying, don't need to accuse. im just trying to let them know there can be a chance 🙂

Ok? There are more schools on that list that value a high DAT other than Upenn.
@JLT223 wasn't being harsh at all. There's a reason why the AVERAGE DAT scores of those schools are 21+. Getting accepted to any of those programs with an 18AA would be more of an outlier rather than the norm.
