Hey guys I'm a student at UVA, and recently I got my grades back, and I did less than stellar. I got a B+ in both chem and chem lab ( which my bro who is also pre med immediately means taking a year off after college[ he got A+ in both]). I got an A- in a psych class, A in calc class, and I am coming in with A's in both Bio 1 and 2, and bio lab 1 and 2.

my GPA is currently not doing so well and I am worried these B+'s will just kill me. I am currently doing volunteer work and will be joining a nueroscience lab next semester for a credit. Other than this I am not really to involved in other groups, but I do plan to go to more meetings and actively participate in the groups I am in. I was hoping to apply to the neuroscience undergrad program here, but it is extremely competitive and the bro( who is also in this program) says this completely takes me out of even being competitive (besides doing research so early)

I was wondering what you guys think? This semester I completely screwed up taking a Buddhism class( taught by a harvard bad as$ ta who graded really hard- i have yet to know what I got in this clas). Also I plan to get a 4.0 next semester, I kinda didn't know studying at college was much more needed than in high school. Do you guys think I can turn myself around?

What other opitions do I have if I do take a year off- considering that I will graduate with either a neuroscience(not likely) or biology degree?

thanks guys, I feel terrible cause I had an A average in Chem and I was sure I was gonna get an A, but then the exam came and I got under the average which I never ever do, and so I am pissed off at myself for not having done more to prepare.( Next semester get ready to get your as$ beat!!)

It's 2:30 in the morning (Eastern time), dude (or dudette?). Stop worrying and get some sleep! Your grades seem pretty good so far--why the heck are you freaking out? Seriously, you need to calm down, or you'll have a coronary or stroke before you're 20...

OI NOOB! Quit worrying! Those are great grades, why you stressing? Plus you go to UVA which is uber competitive. PLUS its your first year, plenty of time to bump up that infamous GPA!

Seriously?? Dude you need to chiiiiill out. A couple of B+'s are just fine. Trust me...I got plenty of the myself and i'm a medical student now...without taking any time off.

If you stress about stuff like this, you're only leading to a meltdown when the classes get harder. You will end up stressing yourself into health problems...and YES THAT CAN HAPPEN.

You did fine. Go celebrate and stop worrying.

haha thanks for the reassurance guys. I really appreciate that. I think my goal next semester is going to put school on top of everything else and not waste time( such as watching random movies when I need to be studying).

thanks again.

oh and do you guys recommend shadowing a doctor for a couple of weeks over break, since I have nothing better to do and figured I could use some more exposure to different types of medical professions?

This is what I mean. Go have fun!!! You only get 4 years in college and then you get slammed. Don't waste it!!! You can get great grades and still have plenty of time to do something fun.

Like Lewis Black said in Accepted, "This is college! These are the best 4 years of your life, so go out and enjoy them, cos when they're finished, you're F****D!"

I mean it...take that to heart cos if you don't, you're gonna regret it.

...Yes shadowing is a good idea.

Now stop worrying about this. Go sleep and then go do something fun tomorrow.

It is kind of ironic that the OP is very stressed about a Buddhism class...

Your grades are fine, and your brother is wrong. There is no class that med schools require an A in. As long as your sGPA stays above 3.4 and your cGPA above 3.6 you will be fine. Individual classes do not matter unless they fall below a C in a pre-req.

See my signature for further detail.

🙄 Dude, enjoy your freaking life! I was more worried and upset how I didn't get any pu**y my first semester in college, when I thought it was going to be all like American Pie  Maybe, girls in a top 25 school weren't meant to be that freaky and adventurous, haha

are you forreal?!?!
Just do well the next few years nobody will even blink when they see your Bs.
Tell your brother to chill the eff out.

haha thats hilarious!! Yeah I doubt any college besides those big party schools are like American Pie. And yeah you are right, they weren't meant to be too freak, but I've met my share of crazy ones.

Thanks again guys, I'm not worried anymore, I just realized my GPA isn't completely destroyed, and I still have a shot!

Thanks again peeps, and I'll be sure to start enjoying life as soon as this snow freakin melts

We all know that the only hard professors are Harvard graduates...
