Is it worth the time, effort and money? I already have a full time job as an engineer but I'm just not satisfied with my career and the corporate politics. My undergrad GPA (graduated in 2009) is not that stellar because of a very tough family situation. I would have to quit my job to start preparing for med school as I do not have the prereqs required. What should I do? What should my course of action look like to have a shot at medical school? Please advice. Thanks.

You have two options. Get into a SMP that has ties to a medical school and will guarantee you at least an interview if you meet a certain GPA level. But it's costly and high risk because if you don't do well, the door is closed.

OR

If you are not in a hurry and are willing to take 3-5 years to achieve your goal of getting into a TX medical school, you can get rid of that 2.8 undergrad GPA. Since you graduated in 2009, you might look into Texas Academic Fresh Start which erases GPA 10 years or greater going forward.
