So I just submitted my primary and am pretty concerned about the Institutional Action section. I have 2 IAs on my record. The first IA I was drunk during the first week of my freshman year and have no doubts I deserved that IA. However for second IA, I was simply present in a room where people over 21 were drinking alcohol in a school apartment. Obviously, this didn't make a difference as I was still present in a room with alcohol so I was written up again in October 2015. I take complete responsibility for both IAs but am a bit scared right now as to my chances. I'm wondering how much of an impact this will have on my applications? I'm scared that adcoms will see a pattern due to the 2 IAs and think I'm an alcoholic. (I don't even like alcohol...)

Both are pretty minor imo. But repeating the same mistake twice is not particularly good.

The absolute definitive answer is:

It doesnt matter. Unless you are planning to withdrawal your AMCAS over the speculations of SDN pundits, then you are doing nothing but adding worry and fear to this. What I would like to see is the 2-4 sentence statement of facts that you are going to do with this on secondaries. And thats all it should be statement of facts. These are minor enough in my view that the facts speak for themselves.

I concur. The second, where people over 21 were drinking on campus, is just draconian and idiotic. I'm so glad I went to college in the 70s when the drinking age was 18.

I am in a similar situation and am unsure how to phrase it. My current statement looks something like this:

I received two alcohol violations during my sophomore year. In the first incident, I was in a friend’s dorm room when a resident assistant making the nightly rounds heard loud talking coming from our room. The RA knocked on the door and asked my friends and I if we were drinking alcohol. I answered honestly that I had been drinking and received a university alcohol violation. Two months later, I was involved in a second incident while waiting to board a bus to be taken to an off-campus mixer. Campus police officers asked the students in line if anyone had been drinking. Again, I answered honestly and said I had consumed alcohol to which the police officer gave me another university alcohol violation.

I feel like I should add in a statement or two taking responsibility for my actions and expressing these were the only actions of misconduct I've had in my career. Any thoughts?

I think you need to cut your statement in half at the very least

I received two alcohol violations during my sophomore year. The first was for drinking in a dorm room(WAS IT BEER OR HARDER?). The second was drinking prior to going to an off campus mixer .

Thank you for the feedback, I'll make changes accordingly. No hard alcohol was involved in either scenario.
