Hello all,

I was wondering if it is possible for an anesthesiologist to work at two different hospitals. If one can give me some insight on this I'd really appreciate it.

Some groups cover several hospitals in which case the anesthesiologist may be posted to different hospitals depending on the need. Some independent anesthesiologists in locations where exclusive contracting with hospitals is rare, may work at different hospitals- they tend to work with a small number of surgeons and will travel with those surgeons from hospital to hospital. Rarely, physicians may engage in part time employment with two different groups at two different hospitals. This must be done with rigid scheduling and may make vacations difficult.

What if you just want to do a little per diem work on your free weekends when not on call, this not affecting scheduling? As a partner in a group, how do your groups handle these types of requests? Let's assume you are even willing to drive or fly to a different region to not compete with your group...

That would be fine with us, as long you are gonna cover your own malpractice for the outside work you're doing. One of our partners spends 2 weeks in Montana every summer summer on a "working" vacation where he helps out a friends practice there. He gets paid well, and gets to write off his vacation as a business expense.
