Here is my situation: I am a third year undergrad.....should be taking the mcat in april, but I'm not, due to some family stuff and personal situations....

I am debating on whether or not to apply this year and take the mcat in august. (Although it might be pushing it to get good rec letters...also...would I be adversely affected by rolling admissions with my mcat score coming in so late?)

OR

just wait....graduate....take a year off....work...save some $$....and then apply with plenty of time.

all comments are appreciated!

Take the MCAT when you're ready. You will be better prepared when you've taken care of your personal situations. Since you don't seem to be running on a ticking clock (I'm assuming you're in your twenties), I think you should take the time to volunteer, do research, work, travel, etc.

Yes, the August may put you at a disadvantage with schools that operate under rolling admissions, but it shouldn't preclude you from gaining admission. I took the Aug 2002 MCAT, applied for the class of 2007, and have had three acceptances so far (and I don't consider myself a stellar candidate).

Whatever you decide, you can't really go wrong, since you seemed pretty determined.

Best of luck!
