Interestingly, the share of Psychiatry PGY1 spots for U.S. Seniors did not increase significantly from last year's match.

653 U.S. Seniors matched into PGY1 Psych spots versus 641 last year.

In terms of the number of positions offered through the match; 1,026 this year, versus a near identical 1,020 last year.

Similarly, the total number of Psych PGY1 positions filled in the match; 983 this year versus 979 last year.

Comments, anyone?

however, it seems that people who apply for psych are definitely more competitive..... more people from top schools are considering psych... in the end, still too much stigma. plus, there are so many spots in psych. not sure when it will be "competitive" to get into psych per se.
