The intended purpose of this post is to give some perspective and calm some nerves (mostly mine). I went through last year's official interview thread and jotted down the date that 2 dozens program first sent out invites. Yes, this is obsessive, but I am super-keen on the dates since I have significant traveling plan outside the interviews.
UC Davis 10-17
UC Irvine 10-29
USC 9-27
UCLA, Geffen 10-11
UCSD 10-19
UCSF 10-17 10-27
Stanford 11-3
Chicago 10-18
Northwestern 10-11
Brigham 10-20
Mass General 9-26
Columbia 9-29
Cornell 11-3
Oregon 9-19
Penn 9-29
Pitt 9-25
Washington 11-6
Mount Sinai 11-1
Beth Israel 11-1
Hopkins 10-6 10-27
Madison 10-4
The two dates for UCSF and hopkins were due to uncertainty whether the significantly earlier one was due to rotating student perk, because the later date had multiple invites on the same day. The impression I got was that there are some programs that sent invites in september, but many of the competitive ones either do 2nd half of October (here looking at you UC's) or immediately around Nov 1 (e.g. some of the NYC schools). Of course, every year would be different (curse you, Oakland A's!).
