For those who went through the 2005 AMCAS, don't you think the 2006 program is MUCH better? It just seems like the application this year is soooo much easier to complete than last year. Maybe its cuz I've done this one time already, I dunno.

One downside: re-entering everything sucks.

i agree, it is alot more user-friendly but re-entering everything sucks! why couldn't they keep the info like they used to?

Yeah I like it a lot better. Don't like having to do it again though.

Oh yeah, it's so much better this year. It hasn't taken me nearly as long as it did last year to enter my course work. But they should have saved it from last year!

And I like the extra room for ec's that you can add information to. But it sucks to have to reapply. 😡

what is/was the first day you can submit 2006 amcas?

Do you guys know if we should re-submit our letters of ref? Can we ask the school to re-use last year's letters?

I think it was May 3rd, right?

no way......june 1 is the date, right? 😕

You could access the app on May 3rd, but yeah, June 1st is the first day you can submit.

Thanks guys..So submission is June 1st, eh?I didn't know that...That's actually good because I'm still waiting to hear from one school and wasn't sure if I should apply yet..

dr.Z, how did it work out for you? Got any good news?

I am half way done with the app. I am taking the august MCAT and I wont be getting my scores till oct. Should I just let them look at my previous score (26) and then tell them when i get my new one?

I dont want my application to be put off until Oct.

They're gonna look at it anyways and they'll know you're taking the August MCAT too.

yeah, you will be getting secondaries before they even see the august MCAT scores ... and some schools wont even accept the application before ALL MCATS are in ....

thats why my application was completed in late august/early september! YEAH, gotta love that turnaround!

I'm a reapplicant and I have a Question...

Should I submit on june 1st (i'll have it done by then) eventhough my new MCAT scores wont be on there yet (had a 29 last yr) or should i wait until mid-june to do it?? I was getting mid 30's on all my practices before the test, so i kinda wanna wait til they're on there to transmit to the schools.
But, will it make a difference? Because last year i submitted early and didnt get any secondaries until july anyways.

thanks

Jim

Waiting two weeks isn't a big deal. Make sure you're ready to click send as soon as you view your scores online at MCAT test history. In the two weeks that you wait have someone who has been through the process review your app OR just read over it and ask yourself "Why would I want to interview this person?" Make sure it's perfect! Make your PS and the explanation of your ECs pop!

Looking at your previous app. Don't UMiami and UVa have a strong in-state preference? Apply to more schools. Keep the faith.

So is it best to just turn in AMCAS now and wait till October for scores 2 come out? Have yall heard of anyone being rejected before their new mcat scores came out?

Im stuck....Took august 2004 mcat- did bad (17L); retaking it this august 2005. Gpa has increased also from my initial time of applying (3.5 now). Should I wait till October or submit now?
HELP!!!!

Your app will be On Hold until your August scores are received. So technically...either way...you'd be waiting until October. How's the MCAT prep coming along?

I was rejected by two schools before August scores came out. But I called both places and they put me back in the pile. (then promptly rejected me the day August scores came out, but hey...). They shouldn't reject you before scores are out.

Shy, did you indicate on AMCAS that you were taking the August MCAT?

As long as you let them know you're taking another MCAT, they shouldn't summarily reject you (maybe if you have an uber-low GPA). Imagine if you got a 40...they'd be kicking themselves then.

I DID indicate I was taking the August MCAT. They just either didn't see it, or didn't care. And no, they were not reach schools for me.

I figured by calling them on the problem that either they'd take a really good look at me (since I obviously REALLY wanted to go there), or they would just change the date on the rejection letter. Turns out they didn't like me anyway.

However, I cannot emphasize this enough: APPLY EARLY. Get as much in as stinkin' early as possible. I think part of the reason I'm reapplying this year is my files weren't complete until mid-November. The three schools that put me in the "to interview pile" didn't get around to me. You have a better chance getting looked at the earlier you get your stuff in... even if you're a stellar applicant your chances of interview and acceptance are lower if you're really far down the stack (I know someone with a 3.9/36 that was late in the cycle and not one interview - I also know of someone with a 25/3.6 that was early in the cycle and got 3 interviews and one acceptance).
