It's usually a lecture series that talks about medical issues for premeds and the general public. Usually it is once a week for a few hours in the evening and runs for 4-8 weeks. usually a small fee, sometimes with a certificate, maybe a chance to get an LOR, and sometimes with a chance to meet med school faculty or alumni. Just another avenue to meet someone connected to your future med school if you have the time. Here is an example of OSU (updated for 2007):

not sure if the speakers are alum, faculty or neither.

I updated a link to find minimedschools in each state.

1st call now to see their policy on school visits. Some schools do not offer this and would rather have students attend the Open House.

When you call they will tell you what is a good day to come since exam, meetings, holidays etc. come into play. Also they may want you to see the students when they have OMM/anatomy/lecture. Or you can tell them what you are hoping to see and hopefully will work it out.

figure out if they have housing for you if you need it. Try to tailor it to what you want to see (lecuture, PBL session, OMM, anatomy, etc.) but be flexible.

Remind the Dean or whoever is setting this up 1 week before your scheduled date. try to at least say hi to the dean. Introduce yourself.

try to get assigned to a 1st year/ 2nd year to ask questions 1-on-1

get email addy's for future contact.

You do NOT have to stay overnight.

All sessions are from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
Cost: $25 for the program.

Thanks for sharing. That is not on the NIH mini-med school list.

Hey there guys just wanted to add MSUCOM to the list!! 😉
Their Open House is April 13, 2007 @ 1p - 4:30p.

From VCOM's website:

Spring Open House Postponed
The Virginia Tech and VCOM communities are in a state of shock and disbelief as we try to digest the tragedy that occurred on campus yesterday. We are pulling together for a convocation and candlelight vigil on the VT campus today and will continue to provide counseling on the VCOM campus throughout the week.

Due to recent events, the VCOM Admissions Spring Open House has been postponed until Saturday, May 19 from 1:00 - 5:30. We hope your schedule will permit a visit to campus on this alternate date. Please respond to this message by emailing us at [email protected] at your convenience to notify us of your intention attend the Open House on Saturday, May 19.

Is open house like pre interview group stuff?
How formal is it?
Should you wear semi-formal or casual attire?
Do you try to make connections or just passively listen?
😕

Going to unpin this and start a new one for 2007-2008 application cycle. Please don't repsond to this thread.

:luck:

I'm confused, as it's still stickied....but I thought I'd mention that I'm fairly certain LMU-DCOM is doing something on the 15th of September. I don't know if it's open to everyone, but I'd have to assume so.
