Today is the big day that we can apply for the 2007 match.

Last year, there was a great thread that kept track of our interviews/rejections, so I thought it would be a good idea again for this year. I don't post much here, so hopefully there are others who are willing to contribute!

How many people have finished their application already?

DO here....application in today....35 programs applied too.

cool!! now it is time to relax for the weekend!

Anybody else apply early?

just wondering how often img's and do's are offered positions before the match? like pre-match contracts? i have heard of it happening but not how often...

I only knew of one that decided to take a prematch offer. It was in Internal Medicine. I have not heard of an IMG being offered a prematch in anesthesiology....

Anybody hear of an anesthesiology prematch offer to an IMG?

Yes. I got one. Private, community-based program. Turned it down. I took a gamble on the Match, and proved that sometimes "two in the bush" is actually better. Got a better placement in a University-based residency. But, I had great board scores, incredible LoR's, and a lot of interviews.

Unless you are in a similar position, I would not necessarily recommend this. Be patient, though. We're just getting started for this season's madness.

Thanks for the information Skip!

Were you already ecfmg certified?

I know New York Methodist and Brookdale offer prematches. However, I would only leave these programs as a last resort since they are not strong programs, in my opinion.

Carib grads get into good programs every year. No reason for us not to 😉

I agree...just let it ride and go through the match. Unless a program you like has offered, but I think those programs would be more inclined to fill from the match anyway.

darn it!!

Advocate Illinois has rejected me already.

University of Florida, reviewing application.

Anybody else?

ECFMG certification is for IMG applicatants only. It verifies our transcripts with our foreign school.

uh, oh...UMASS hates me as well...

I'm patiently waiting. By patiently I mean I check my e-mail every 2 minutes. I wonder what it's gonna feel like when we get that first interview? 😱

Just wanted to tell you guys, there is an almost identical thread like this from last year...which I used to check aprox. 3 times per hour to see if anyone was hearing anything I wasn't...hang in there, it will all work out in the long run! 😀

I didn't want this thread to die out.

Thus far:

Applied on first day to many programs (kind of embarrased to name the number)
U of FL and Mount Sinai will wait until Dean's letter to make decision
No interview offers yet
No rejections yet
Going crazy

Let's keep this thread going strong!

No, I was not. I could not get this until Ross released all of my information and I had actually graduated. Be careful about your timing of applying for ECFMG certification, too. A lot of people got screwed for applying too early (before all their credentials had been submitted) and they had to re-apply and re-submit the application fee. Ross did a poor job of telling us this could occur.

But, this does not matter for purposes of the Match and applying for residency. Most programs know you will inevitably get this when you graduate, and there are no restrictions on applying through ERAS for a spot in the coming year (as I'm aware) provided that you will have ECFMG certification when you start the program.

First, it was neither of the two aforementioned programs. New York Methodist's program has likewise been closed. There are others in the New York/New Jersey area that have consistently offered pre-match spots. Brookdale offers almost all of there spots solely outside the match, and did not even open or attempt to download my application when I applied (in other words, don't bother applying through ERAS unless things have changed - if you want to go there, do a rotation and/or call the program directly).

And, yes, Carib grads get into good programs every year. Some of us (like myself) get into great University-level programs in excellent locations as well. So, although it's definitely getting tighter and tighter, no reason to believe that you don't have a chance if you've got the grades, scores, and letters to back it up. If you get enough interviews, no reason not to try the Match.

Good luck to everyone. The season is still early. If it gets later in the year, you didn't get as many interviews as you'd hoped, and you get a pre-match from a decent program, reconsider what I said above.

Good to hear. Do ya mind sharing your stats and what program you got into?

Hi,
I just wanted to let everyone know that Brookdale anesthesia is currently on probation. I know this b/c I'm from NY and I've done a few rotations there. I don't know what this really means or what will happen to the program but just wanted to let you know if you are considering this program.

wow its been awhile since I have posted....Im in my clinical base year at Univesity of Chicago and thought I would drop into the forum for awhile...dont sweat not interviewing at Advocate. They only take 2 via the match then scramble in 6 after....they dont tend to interview strong applicants... the hospital is great though espcially for a chicago hospital.. clean, great record, film system...but the anesthesia dept is run by a private group that isnt much into academics. You will have a few hits this month, a few in october, then a downpour in November. I will say that if you do not hear from a specific program by then email the director! I did at Colorado and subsequently got an interview. You have to remember they have 500+ applications to get through and dont want to waste their breath on even a top applicant if they dont think they will rank the program high.

Hi
I am an IMG ( not a US citizen) and have completed three yrs of anesthesia residency in my country, India. I have applied for residency position in anesthesia and am awaiting calls, but alas thay are far n few. What is the current status for IMG's like me for getting anesthesia. I have 6 international publications under my belt and a research as well which I would be presenting at the ASA conference. Although, I had thought calls would not be a problem, as of now with only 1 call frm prelim med. n 1 frm anesthesia I am a bit apprehensive. Any ideas as to how to convince PDs to send a call n any IMG friendly places where there is a better chance.

U Mass? Don't worry, you're lucky they rejected you.
I talked to a few people that interviewed there and they all hated it.
They said they wanted to leave half way through the interview and never come back. That was two years ago though but still, I don't think much changed. 😉

MGH rejection. First one off the bat... A little bummed 🙁 But we'll see what happens at my other schools.

I was wondering if I should talk to the program director and try to persuade him about an interview, but then again.... is it really worth it?

Good luck to you all.
