This for everyone who is just completing at schools (aka applied late, verifiedlate, LOR sent in late, etc).

I think we need to support each other because everyone else on this forum seem to have be complete in like July.

Please share your recent complete dates and progress!

I got verified last thursday so i should be receiving secondarys soon! I applied to 18 schools the usual PCOM CCOM LECOM KCOM etc...

I have a 25 mcat (9VB 6PS 10BS) and a 24 straight 8's (not sure which is better) and a 3.4 GPA and 3.4 sGPA good EC's

Fingers crossed

Good luck everyone! Hopefully this thread will give us late applicants some hope.

Absolutely... we are a little late in the game... but we still have a decent shot of getting in... especially with applying to many schools and returning our secondaries very quickly...
I applied to 16 schools... still waiting to be verified... should be in the next week or so... judging by those who are posting... But I have already looked up a lot of the secondary questions and have started working on them.
I have 24O (9BS/8V/7PS) 3.48 cGPA, 3.4 sGPA.
Good luck to everyone still waiting and working on applications!

Submitted mid-October, hopefully will be verified in the next month or so. Working on the secondary stuff ahead of time so that when I get them I can send them right back. Applied to 6 schools.
28K (10BS/7PS/11VR), 3.524 cGPA, 3.43 sGPA

Submitted AACOMAS 9/26/09, verified 11/13/09, getting secondaries out as they come in, hope we still have a shot! If i'd realized it was taking 7 weeks to get verified I would def. have submitted earlier. ugh.

Oh and I received secondaries on the 17, 18, and 20th if that helps give you a timeframe, I'm applying to 7.

I submitted 10/7 and got verified 11/19.
27P (9BS/9PS/9VR), 3.64 cGPA, 3.52 sGPA

Let's hope we can join the class of 2014! 👍

Good news, that would mean id be getting my first secondary tomorrow :xf:

wow Rawman, a 5 week processing time makes me hopeful. Have you received any secondaries so far?

Nothing yet. When I got verified, the e-mail sent by AACOMAS said, "Your AACOMAS application has been verified and will be released to the colleges. Applications/Updates are sent once a week from data received by Monday morning and made available on Tuesday."

So I'm guessing the schools got my app today. I'm not sure how much longer it will take to get secondaries considering the Thanksgiving weekend. But it seems that people submitting their apps later are getting verified faster - probably since there might be less apps for AACOMAS to get through as the year progresses. In any case, maybe you'll be verified soon too 😀

I think this is a much needed thread! Seeing so many people with acceptances already has made me quite nervous, I'm so glad I'm not the only one 🙂

I completed my secondaries last week and have already received two interview invites, one from KCOM and one of from LECOM-Erie! So those of you who are just finishing up your applications, don't stress it so much because the schools seem to be pretty quick in processing the apps.

My stats are 25O (PS-9 VR-7 BS-9) and 24Q (PS-7 VR-8 BS-9), sGPA 3.55 cGPA 3.69 and good extracurriculars and LORs.

Good luck to everyone!

I haven't even submitted yet, hopefully they can get my transcripts in within two weeks. Is it even worth it to still apply?

It is worth it if you want a non-zero probability of being accepted this year. Your chances are clearly going to be much lower than they would be if you applied the next cycle. If you're willing to spend the money, time and effort for a small probability you'll be accepted, then do it. If not, wait until next cycle (and in the meantime you can improve your application).

You probably won't be verified until January, but you can submit your secondary at most schools until March or April. You'll be competing for fewer and fewer spots. But, again, if you don't apply, your chances are zero. So it depends on if you feel comfortable spending the money with say a 5% chance of getting in (I have no idea if that's the actual probability) or if you'd rather wait it out until next cycle and have a 50% chance of getting in.

just wondering

if you were just sending out your secondaries now, are you late?

Ummm, you can submit via AACOMAS June 1st. We're now near the end of November. By my reckoning that means we're about 6 months into the application cycle. The application cycle is open until March or the beginning of April depending on the school. So there's, what, maybe 4 more months in the application cycle.

So is late now? Well, that's relative, no? It's late relative to the folks who applied in June and have already received acceptances. Is it late relative to the folks who will wait until February? Not so much. But given that many more people apply early than wait until after the new year to apply, yeah, it's getting on deep into the application cycle. That's pretty obvious.

Just wanted to give an update to all those still waiting to be verified... Submitted 10/30 verified 12/1...

honestly I dont think this thread is needed. I made an "am I late?" thread a couple days ago, some guy apparently didnt see it and made ANOTHER thread yseterday... and now this.

We're late people, LATE LATE LATE.

not too late, because there is still a chance of getting in. But we waited far too long IMO. it's really now more of a crap shoot for all of us.

Good luck and stop the "am i late?" threads!!

Hmmm yes I think we all agree on the fact that our apps our late, hence the title of late completion thread. we are acknowledging the fact and hopefully offering some support. So let's be supportive instead of negative.

I jus finished submitting secondaries to bunch of schools. Waiting on some others but those school screen.

Good luck to you all. I'm glad I at least finished all secondary essays last month! NOw the waiting for the interviews begins!!!!

Im just submitted my application. I dont think submitting right now that you wont get in. I called some of the schools and most said they only have a third of the class with acceptances and thats not including who will actually go. So we still have a good chance in my opinion. Dont listen to those ppl who say we dont. My best friend is in a DO school right now and she told me DO's wait till late to do most of there accepting because they know alot of ppl submit late after applying to MD programs. Im applying late because of the funding, I applyed to MD and DO at the same time. So just pray.🙂

Yes. I think we all still have shot... A lot better shot than if we didn't apply at all. I like the lets stay positive attitude... lets face it... It's the best we can do now... And will sure make it a whole lot more pleasant!

Btw, How long is everyone spending on their secondaries?
I want to put enough time into them to make them good and answer the questions thoroughly but I also know I don't have to the time (with finals coming up) to make them literary artwork either. Any suggestions?

Just to give some perspective on this, yes it's late but even though some had their secondaries submitted in June, most schools didn't even look at them until mid September. So more like 3 months into the cycle/roll.

As for me, I personally just completed the majority of my secondary osteo apps due to the long 7 week time it took for my aacomas primary to even be looked at. We're all still in it, stay on top of the secondaries because there always late admissions... even 2 days before the semester start 😱

Apply broadly.

Just thought I'd say that I was accepted to MSUCOM today. Complete last Tuesday. Never give up and never lose hope because it's never too late to apply until actually you're after their deadline.

There's normal late and then there's SDN late.

My application and transcripts were complete on 11/18 and I was verified today. That is well under a month!

I can really only just now afford to submit my primary AACOMAS. I plan to apply to 3 schools (NYIT, Touro NY, and hopefully Midwestern) , so it shouldn't take too long to complete secondaries. Is it still worthwhile given the time necessary to get verified and the lag until secondaries come in?

In other words, are the relatively late deadlines, ie Feb to March for submission, just formality as the classes are likely filled by then.

I've only interviewed at 1 AMCAS school and think it's time to get serious about beginning somewhere next fall

It's apparently only a ~4 week turn around now with AACOMAS. With the school specific threads you can see what is required for the prompts and such, use them while waiting for your primary verification. That way when you actually get the secondaries you can have them submitted same day. You could be complete before adcoms even start again in the new year.

The most aggressive rolling admissions school that I know of (MSUCOM) is only a little more than half full, so you're certainly not too late. Also if you can stretch yourself to afford more than three schools, I would suggest doing so.

Thanks for the response Everglide. I'll try to afford more, but one of those NY schools has a $200 app fee...ridiculous.

Hey guys, I just completed my secondaries about a week and half ago, and already received 2 invites!!!! Its still possible to get interviews!!! best of luck to you all!!!
🙂

Hey, I just became complete on aacomas and I applied to 3 schools. I would prefer to attend m.d. schools but I want to go anywhere really. I realized that something that is very important to me is the class schedule. I know 1 med school in particular that has classes 9-12am and a lab about once a week. In contrast students at Nova claim 8-12pm lecture and 1-5lab ~4x per week. Are there any other schools that have less class/lab time?? This is not because I am lazy but I study best when I have the time to prepare for the lecture. Also I would prefer if the school had exams one class at a time, biweekly, and not once per semester. Thanks.

Hi, I applied to 9 schools in all. I am a current professional student, and have taken courses with MD students and done great in professional school. grad GPA 3.82, cumulative uGPA 3.75, sGPA ~3.85, MCAT 29R. I was verified by AACOMAS on 12/8

I applied to:

NYCOM
PCOM
UMDNJ
CCOM
DMU
KCUMB
AZCOM
ASTU-SOMA
Touro-NV

What do you guys think my chances are?

Well the schools with so little in class time might be PBL (problem based learning). Lake Erie (for some of the students) and Lake Erie Bradenton are PBL based. You have class ~9 hours per week most of the time and learn all the material individually out of texts or in small groups. In the PBL meetings you go through a medical case determining the steps you would take to solve it... then the stuff you learn is based on issues that came up in the case.

The exams are 3 times per semester though... If you want weekly exams you should go lecture style.

Also Lake Erie has a program that is almost entirely individual. They give you the modules and let you learn them on your own. You can go to lecture if you want, but there is no requirement. I am not sure how often these exams are.

I think a couple other programs across the country use PBL to a lesser extent. These are the only two I know of that use it almost exclusively.

I Submitted 10/19 but I wasn't verified until 12/3. Received and submitted my secondaries by 12/9. I'm still waiting for 1 LOR and my DO letter to be received. No interview invite yet either, but my MCAT was only a 23Q and my GPA is 3.3 It's not looking good right now.

So, I just submitted my primary a couple of days ago. I'm guessing it should be finished processing by mid- to late January, right? I'll go ahead and start working on prompts for secondaries once I find them on here.

My stats are okay: 28M, 3.4c, 3.0s, great research, shadowing, and community service experiences, including medical mission trips abroad; have held multiple jobs during during my undergrad, and I'm a Vandy undergrad, if that counts for anything. My transcript and scores have been submitted as well as my LORs. I'm applying to

1) VCOM
2) LMU-DCOM
3) Ohio COM
4) NSUCOM
5) AT Still-SOMA
6) DMUCOM
7) Touro-CA
8) Western

What do you think my chances are, particularly considering a late application?

I think you should be ok. I was verified 2 weeks ago and have recieved most of my secondaries and 1 interview invite already. Go for it dude. I'm sure you'll do well. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure the majority of DO schools are all day. You may have a break in the day while group A has lab if you are in group B, but it is typically more time. Also, I would check which schools have required attendance and which are more lax. Have you done any research on PBL schools like LECOM-B? PBL meets 2 or 3 times a week for a few hours then the rest is self-study on the topics decided upon by the group.

Last, about the bold statement...just so you know, attitudes like that make you come across as a douchebag--whether you mean to or not.

Hello everyone!

Like most people on this thread I am really late in the application process! I am working on getting all of my secondaries out within the next couple of days. However, some of the schools are demanding letters of recommendation that are geared towards answering specific questions...like LECOM. At this point, I have general recommendations on Interfolio that I was planning on sending out to all of these schools. Do you guys think that the general recommendation will set me back a lot at these schools?

Thank you very much for your help!!

Just wanted to let you all know that I submitted my AACOMAS on Dec. 17, and it was verified yesterday, Dec. 28. So, processing time is less than 2 weeks!

I had my letter writers just upload whatever it is they had to say to my interfolio without consulting specific school guidelines. A couple of schools had issues with one letter that didn't address a specific point they wanted, but they let that letter writer just send an email addendum and it was fine.

My advice is just send the letters, especially at this point. If they need more information from a letter writer, they'll tell you and you can get it added to your file.

Well to give ya'll some hope, complete with LMU DCOM on 12/7/09 and just received an interview invite this week! Very excited, hang in there, and be sure to follow up! Some schools said I was complete but when i called to double check they hadn't downloaded my LORs even though they have been uploaded since like September. GL

Wait you got an interview and accepted in a week....guess that's not looking to good for me. My secondary to MSUCOM was sent in and I was complete on 11-23...still haven't heard anything about an interview almost 2 months later...

So did you still call them directly to follow up even if they had e-mailed to say you were complete? LECOM still says the don't have my MCAT scores, I have re-released them, e-mailed them the scores, and tried calling and e-mailing them to follow up and haven't gotten a response...anyone else have this problem?

I would def. call them, emails get lost in the shuffle.

aacomas verified 12/9/09

I called a week back to check on the processing of my secondary... the women told me they were down a person, so that might be what is causing all the confusion. Still frustrating for you I know... You might try and call again and be sure and explain precisely where the rest of your application is in the process... this might help. Good luck.
