I've heard that secondary questions don't change much from year to year, but does that mean it's safe to start drafting answers based on last year's questions, or may this end up being a waste of time if the questions change?

hey bro i posted a similar thread a short time ago

the general consensus was that, they stay relatively consistent year-to-year. someone in that thread also gave an excellent set of general questions which many schools ask, and those might be the best to draft early on.

👍👍. If you want to get a head start using last year's questions - by all means do it! But don't be surprised or taken off guard if the application completely changes this year even though many will stay the same.

Good luck!

AMCAS hasn't even opened yet, why would you draft secondary essays before your PS is submitted?

because for some people, it's easier to work slowly and steadily instead of doing a mad rush of essay writing after you've received the secondaries and realize they're all supposed to be sent back with as short a turnaround time as possible.

i see why you would ask this, though. since, ya know, you're only applying to one school 😛

Touché. 😳

Drafting early is a great idea. Most secondaries are so similar that I only had to write 2 essays (except for Duke), and used slightly modified versions of one of these 2 essays for all my applications.

Figure out what you have to offer that is exceptional or interesting, and find a couple of ways to demonstrate that in essay form. The vast majority of questions can then be tweaked and funneled into one of those essays.
