Duke University Dermatopharmacology Fellowship
Elise A. Olsen, MD Director
The Duke University Dermatopharmacology Fellowship is a 1-2 year Clinical Research Fellowship in the Department of Dermatology at Duke University.
The overall aim of the Fellowship is to educate a physician on the means by which clinical research can be successfully partnered with a career in dermatology. During the Fellowship, the physician (dermatologist or physician interested in becoming a dermatologist) will be exposed to and participate in all aspects of clinical research from inception of an idea for a study to publication of the results. The Dermatopharmacology Study Center (DSC) conducts investigator- initiated studies including new initiatives in understanding disease etiology, efficacy and safety of new treatments or long term effects of older treatments, identification and validation of clinical and histological prognostic indicators, development of new assessment techniques, and potential genomic correlations with disease. The DSC also conducts Phase I-IV Pharmaceutical sponsored studies and is active in drug development including preclinical studies.
The Fellow will work under the direction of Dr. Elise Olsen, who is the founder and Director of the Duke Dermatopharmacology Study Center. The Fellow will work with Dr. Olsen in her Duke Hair Disorders and Cutaneous Lymphomas clinics which provides exposure to two challenging areas in medical dermatology and allows insight into setting up research databases using data collected from clinic visits. The Fellow will be involved in at least 1-2 clinical studies per year and is encouraged to present his/her results at applicable Dermatology conferences. He or she will have the opportunity to attend the educational sessions of the Dermatology Department of Duke and at least one major Dermatology meeting per year.
Those interested in the Duke University Dermatopharmacology Fellowship should fill out the application form and submit this to Dr. Olsen. Please direct questions to Andrea Bazakas at email [email protected] or 919-681-8448.
