Hey guys! Figured we could use a thread to discuss application successes/woes this cycle.

I'll even start it off with:

Yale - Rejection Email - 7/19
UWashington - Rejection Snail Mail - 7/19

Woo!

Good call, I was just thinking about starting one of these.

AMCAS submitted: July 19
Secondaries submitted: Wash U (July 20th)
Secondaries started: Columbia, Baylor, Yale, University of Washington
Waiting on: Harvard/MIT, Stanford, UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, Cornell, Mt Sinai, NYU, Johnny Hopkins, Penn, Duke, Emory

i think the purpose of the thread is to list acceptances/rejections.

I guess...I don't really see the problem with people sharing their progress in the process...

Then this will be a very empty thread, given that it's not even August. I hope to have some major updates by this weekend.

I just wanted to keep you all updated that nothing has happened yet for me.

they have school specific threads for constant updating of your progress in the pre-allo forum. and yes, it will be a very empty thread for now haha.

i don't know, nobody is against cluttering an acceptance/rejection thread other than me? 😕 i like the format of the previous year threads where there was just a list of schools, and you would add your name to a school once you've heard back...

I just figured since we are in the minority, and in some (most?) cases reviewed by a separate committee, it might be cathartic to share updates. *shrug*

To update my earlier post:

UWashington: I submitted the MSTP pre-secondary secondary the day it opened, and was rejected after that. The letter was 2 sentences long, which I found amusing.

Yale: I wasn't even marked as complete until after the rejection email. Maybe because the status page is for MD review. It was noted that I was kicked back into the MD pool.

UChicago: A professor who I've been in touch with on the committee said that they had been emailed about starting app reviews in the near future. This was last week, so maybe we'll hear about interview invites soon (if people haven't already).

I applied to number of schools because I need to overcome a low GPA. Thus, I'm not surprised or jaded when I get an insta-rejection. At any rate, :luck:.

Fair enough. Why not do that too when it gets closer to the time? It's not like there are so many of us that this will get out of control if we update fairly regularly.

I wouldn't mind hearing about what other people are doing. I'm Canadian, so I don't really know anyone else who's applying to MD/PhD

word. I guess another thread will officially be created later in the cycle. all my info is on my mdapps profile. I've been updating it religiously haha.

I wouldn't start worrying yet if you haven't heard anything. In my experience MD/PhD admissions tend to run later than MD. I know my program won't even start reviewing applications until August.

I love finding out after being complete at a bunch of places that the letter packet my premed advisor uploaded didn't include 2 of the most important recs. One being from my thesis advisor. 👎

😱 Seriously, pre-med advisors need to be harangued constantly. Mine decided she was going on vacation at the beginning of july. Great idea. great.

Is anybody else a little confused by the UCLA secondary?

Specific Areas of Interest at UCLA:
- List your areas of interest on one line separating each by a comma.
- Include names of faculty at UCLA whose work is of interest - 400 character limit

Please DO NOT list faculty names, but rather separate by commas.
Listing faculty names causes the information to overlap with question below on the Admission Committee's version of application.

So do we list the faculty names, or not??

RE: UCLA.....I know right? Seriously I wonder if we turned in apps with as many typos as these secondaries have what the adcoms would say. Harumph.

I listed interests on one line, did a hard return, and then listed faculty separated by comas on each line.

If we all do the same thing, at least we will all have the same relative chances!

P.S. I think the "don't list" means don't do hard returns between each faculty name. That is my take anyways....

Sounds like a formatting issue with really bad instructions. They have something similar on the Columbia secondary. I think they just mean don't use line breaks between names.
