2011 class needs advice for OU

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can anyone give me some insight on how the P1 classes are at OU?

Eat, sleep, and sleep some more. All the videos are online the first semester so you never have to go unless it's pharmacy practice. But there's a lot of free food from the student organizations too so I usually follow my routine up at school. Eat there and sleep in class.

First semster the toughest class for many is probably Biochemistry, followed by Physiology. Both of these classes have 8-12 teachers lectureing, which can be both a blessing and a curse. Read the syllabus/notes they provide for you. Dont fall behind.

Download the DDS powerpoints to your computer and look at the "notes" section, and you will find that Dr. Payne writes down word for word what he says. Write this ahead of time and you only need to go to class for the extra things he says at the beginning of class.

Skip Dr. Borens class both semesters (Pharmacy math) you dont learn anything you cant learn on your own by reading his website, and he tends to talk all over the place.

Second semester you need to know about 250 generic-brand conversions for pharmacy practice so if you get bored first semester or over break you can amuse yourself learning those.

You will have tag-team teachers again second semester for Immunology and PDA. Dr. Shough (who leactures for both of these classes) is probably your hardest tester he asks very specific questions and its near to impossible to get points back. Write down every word he says, especially in PDA.

Your schedule second semester is wonderful. You are out of class by noon just about everyday.

I encourage you to form a study group and take turns making study guides. We had a lot of students that would make some and send them out to the class. I have some excellent Immunology ones I made that I can send to whomever is interested.

tungywungy is right about the pizza....but I disagree about the watching the videos thing. Except for DDS which you can set at 3X speed and still understand, you are stuck having to watch hours of boring video. Its best just to get your butt up and go to class.

OU has a group on facebook and a group on myspace, so join up folks....

If I think of anything else Ill post some more, otherwise post or PM me if you have any questions.

Is DDS lab one or two times a week? I couldn't really tell from the schedule they sent us in the orientation materials.
