It would be really great if we systematically added years till graduation and proportion of students completing both degrees to this tracking in some way. Years would be easy to add to each residency listing. Proportion of students completing would be harder of course...but still traceable.

Personally, I think these metrics are likely more program specific than matching is and would be more interesting for SDN or an independent source to try to track as this is what the programs sometimes don't tell us clearly on their own.

There is no way to actually do this without large scale program cooperation. Match lists are publicly posted data, and as such are essentially advertisements. See my blog for the ways in which these lists are manipulated. That said, I'm almost certain my writing on the topic has simply led to less graduates being listed on match lists (i.e. just leave "post-doc" and certain others off entirely). Programs are surprisingly hesitant to give out any more data publicly about their students because of course it might make them, or the individual students who took a long time to graduate, look bad.

I agree, but believe me, programs are not exactly a fan of SDN, especially of yours truly. Certain other very proactive people have tried to do this in the past and have not been successful as far as I'm aware. Frankly, the programs don't want to tell you clearly about things that could be drawbacks to their program or MD/PhD in general. It's an intense fight for funding for these programs, and anything that might look bad could hurt their ability to train MD/PhDs in the future.

As such, this information is kept fairly confidential. Some programs are certainly more open about things than others, and I commend those directors and coordinators who actively participate and will discuss these issues on SDN. The PDs do occasionally publish information from time to time in certain aggregate and published forms, such as the occasional academic medicine paper or a MD/PhD group report, but certainly not in the level of detail that the pre-med would wish when deciding about MD/PhD or trying to choose between programs.
