I read that the registration opens Sept. 1 2011, but I know the 'match' happens in March 2012.

Does it matter when you register with NRPM?

Is it okay to register even before you submit your ERAS application or even before the application is ready/scores are out?

Thanks.

As long as you register before the deadline, no, it doesn't matter. You can't do anything with it until 1/15/2012 though.

pretty sure deadline is in november but you should check

Thanks all. Is there any advantage of waiting until the last moment? Like..more time to decide whether you want to participate or not? Is there a registration fee? I read somewhere about "withdrawing from the match". Is that also possible?

Thanks.

There is no benefit to registering early, other than saving $50.

If you prematch, you'll withdraw from the NRMP. In that case, you'll have wasted $50-100.

Although you can register anytime right up to the ROL deadline, programs will not be able to rank you if you have not registered. Hence, if you'll be participating, you'll want to register long before the ROL deadline -- but anytime before mid January is certainly fine.

I did it last week after submitting ERAS just so I wouldn't forget to do it before the $50 late fee occurs.

Yea, it takes about a second and a half, so unless you're hard up for the $50 (realize that's totally possible on a med student budget although at least it's still towards the beginning of the term for most), I say just get it over with so you don't have to worry about it.
