Hey, figured I couldn't be the only person doing the CAPIC process as a back-up, so I figured we should start a threat similar to the 2013 APPIC Internship thread. Good luck to all!
I like that you said "threat!"
Hey everyone! I don't know too much about CAPIC but I was wondering if any of the sites were APA accredited or if they are APA are they only APPIC? Thanks!

CAPIC seems to be a world unto itself. Those sites do not participate in the internship match. Thus, they are not APPIC members and not APA accredited.
Erg has it pretty much right. CAPIC is completely independent of APPIC, and thus are not accredited sites. Internship sites in the CAPIC system basically pay a fee and are allowed to be in CAPIC, and it follows a similar system to APPIC interview/match wise. The largest differences: they are not accredited, there are half-time internships available, and A GOOD PORTION OF THEM DO NOT PAY THEIR INTERNS.
I would like to think that CAPIC provides a launching pad for APPIC; it allows sites to have graduating classes and can present that information to APPIC. I know University of San Francisco and one of the UCSF programs that newly joined APPIC this year were formally CAPIC sites. But there are some sites that will likely never pursue APPIC and get away with working desperate interns for free.
Also, you cannot as an intern participate in CAPIC unless you go to a school in California.
(APPIC requires payment of interns)
Hi, All!
I just wanted to say Hello and that I am planning on applying CAPIC this year.
I also applied to APPIC.
Are those of you applying to both planning on applying to CAPIC Rounds I and II, or wait to hear from APPIC Round I and just apply for CAPIC Round II?
I completely understand that people are eager to graduate. However, training at a CAPIC site has enormous implications for your career. When I did my post-doc search recently, I was unable to find any paid postdoctoral fellowships that did not require APA accredited internships (a few were okay with APPIC but did not prefer it). If you are eliminating yourself from consideration for VA, military, Kaiser, medical centers and most counseling centers, where are you going to apply for post-doctoral fellowships and jobs? How are you going to get licensed? Furthermore, even licensed jobs in CA are now requiring APA internships as a minimum criteria (I've seen some postings for counseling centers). CA is a saturated market and the post-docs/job market is at least as competitive as internship (trust me, I matched at a VA internship and its rough out there even for those of us from good programs and top internships that are looking in CA).
Just wanted people to know what the post-doc market is like before making a decision about CAPIC. Unpaid post-docs are out there also for people who complete unaccredited internships, but you have to be willing to work another 1-2 years without pay.

I'm also applying to CAPIC sites. My school requires us to apply to CAPIC Round I if we want to do Round II, so I'm doing the whole shebang. However, the process is SERIOUSLY way easier than the APPIC process in terms of requirements, in my opinion. What do you guys think?
Also, I'm wondering what you all know about the MHSA grant process for CAPIC sites. I'd really like to get paid something for full time work...but like you, 25Charlie2, I'm ready to get out of school and on with my life!
Hey, Everyone!
I never realized how hard it would be for me to feel motivated to apply for CAPIC sites while still interviewing for APPIC/ APA.
I know the *extended* deadline just passed, but has anyone heard from any sites for interviews, yet?
I applied for 15 sites and am so anxious to hear back from them all, already.
I think that I spent all of my patience with APPIC. 😉
I just wanted to confirm, CAPIC does not have an interview notification date like APPIC does, right?
I applied to 6 sites, and have gotten interviews at 3. One of my sites dropped out at the last minute without notifying anyone, which was kind of a major bummer. I'm pretty sure you're right- they don't have a uniform notification date, which is kind of frustrating.
And yes, I am extremely burnt out. I had my last APPIC/APA interview yesterday, and purposefully scheduled the next round starting a week from now so that I could have a week to work up the proper amount of enthusiasm after this grueling process!

I understand that CAPIC is not for everyone. This particular thread was not intended to critique or argue those points. Please keep in mind that there is a HUGE APA/APPIC internship imbalance and hundreds of students each year (even from APA-accredited universities) must resort to non-accredited internships, most unpaid. Not everyone who pursues a doctorate in psychology wants to work for the VA, get a post-doc fellowship, or teach at top tier universities. Many of us want to continue our work in undeserved populations through community mental health, or want to have a private practice and teach a class or two at the local community college. Neither of these, as well as many other career paths, require APA/APPIC internships. The vast majority of states do not even require APA/APPIC for state licensure.
I am hopeful that this thread can be a supportive one, for those of us who have decided that this is the right choice for us. I think this can be a positive place where we can provide each other with updates and communicate who has heard from which sites, etc. If you would like to critique and argue the merits of a CAPIC internship, or question other people's decision to pursue this path, you are more than welcome, but I personally would appreciate it if it occurred elsewhere. Internship, APA or not, is stressful enough and trust me, the decisions surrounding choosing CAPIC are not always easy ones.
I wish the best of luck to all who are pursuing an internship, regardless of accreditation status. Again, I hope we can create a supportive environment during this stressful period.
Best,
25Charlie2
Congrats on your 3 interviews!!!
May I ask what sites?
I know people seem less interested in participating in this thread, but I know that the APPIC interview thread was really helpful for me to know when to start preparing myself for rejection (as sad as that sounds), and celebrating with people when they received interviews.
So far, I received a personalized rejection from CSPP Psychological Services Center, SF (Child Track)
The Early Childhood Service track at StarVista has dropped from the match, and they cannot consider those who applied to this track for other tracks with their agency, according to CAPIC rules.
I received a phone screening interview from Girl's Inc of Alameda County (General email with a request to give dates and time this weekend and next week for a 15 minute phone interview)
I have a friend who heard from ANKA in Concord for an interview on Monday.
How about everyone else--- any good or not so good news?
Would you mind sharing which sites?

I'm not judging anyone for applying, but just wanted to clarify something since your post has some misinformation for applicants. While its true that you don't need an APA internship for licensure in most states, its quite difficult to get the 1500-2000 postdoctoral hours required for licensure in most states (especially the 4 hours of supervision per week required in CA and other states) without a post-doc at a hospital, va, kaiser, counseling center, established clinic etc. A community mental health center will not generally provide you with 4 hours of supervision per week while you are working there. They simply do not have the resources. People do not do pursue post-doc fellowships simply because they want to go to academia, research or teaching. Many times it is because its required to get an entry level job or because they cannot get licensed otherwise (many jobs will not hire you without a license).
The interviews are at Oakes Children's Center, Psychological Services Center (Child/Family Track) and Ann Martin Center. Haven't heard anything else yet myself. How does the screen interview work? I know someone who is at Girls Inc this year, and she likes it a lot, for what it's worth. Good luck!

Congrats on your interview!!! Woohoo!
I received an interview for UC Davis PM&R, Adult Neuro track with options for Feb 11 or Feb 12.
It looks like they are offering two time slots both days and they will be group interviews.
Sadly, it appears that they have filled their Peds and Adult Neuro/Spine Center tracks will be closed this year, as they filled those positions with post-docs.
Has anyone heard from the UC Davis ASAP Programs or Woodland Community College?
Hey everyone!
I was wondering if anyone has heard from any of these sites?
Palomar Pomerado Behavioral Health - Outpatient Full-time
Contra Costa County Mental Health - CAT
Glendale Adventist Hospital, Family Medicine
Julia Ann Singer Center/Vista Del Mar - Full-time
Sierra Education and Research Institute
Alameda County Medical Center - Department of Psychiatry
Wright Institute - Los Angeles
For those who are still waiting to hear from sites, these are the one's I have heard from. I saw someone asked about UC Davis ASAP.
Alvarado Parkway Behavioral Health System - Interview offer
UC Davis ASAP (Main Campus) - Interview offer
Anka Behavioral Health (Northern CA) - Interview offer
Azusa Pacific University - Community Counseling Center - Interview offer
Sovereign Health of California - Interview offer
Maple Counseling Center - Rejection
Thanks for the response, though the Alameda one was a brain-bugger. I got the e-mail this morning from Alameda that our materials were being forwarded to the various rotations. I wasn't able to make interview last night, but I am hoping that won't rule me out. I'm going to try to make the Feb. 15th grand rounds if possible.Alameda county had a 1st round interview last night. They will be interviewing by rotation, and those going for neuro were invited to grand rounds for their interview.
Rejection from St Mary's a couple days ago.
I personally didn't apply twice. The sites I looked at that are both APPIC and CAPIC seemed to be offering the same position in both matches (same pay, dates, hours, etc.). I applied to those site through APPIC, and then used my CAPIC spots for other sites. I wouldn't worry, sites have limited time and since you interviewed through APPIC, they know you and if they are interested will likely rank you in the APPIC match. Do dual APPIC/CAPIC sites try to fill spots first with APPIC applicants, and go to CAPIC applicants as a back-up like us?Hey, Everyone!
I received an interview for UCD ASAP (Medical Facility) and for Alameda Family Services.
I have not heard from Glendale, yet, either. 🙁
Also, I was wondering if anyone who received an APPIC interview received a CAPIC interview with the same site?
I interviewed for an APPIC spot with AACI and ANKA and applied again for CAPIC but have not heard anything from them, so I wasn't sure if I royally screwed up the interview or if they just are not re-interviewing people.
I'm waiting to hear from:
Woodland Community College
Glendale Adventist
ANKA
Asian Americans for Community Involvement
St Mary's
Partners/ STARS
and
Oakes Children's
Has anyone heard from any of these sites?
I'm crossing my fingers, toes, and eyeballs for all of us! 😀
May the perfect placement be in all of our futures!
Also, I heard from Anka a week or two ago, though they might still be offering interviews. I have only had one formal rejection, and I am not sure if CAPIC follows the same procedure as APPIC where every site is suppose to notify you of whether you are rejected or under consideration. Does anyone know if we will definitely hear from everyone? Should I assume that if I haven't heard I am still in the running?
Hello, All!
How is everyone holding up with Match Day up and coming for APPIC and with the notification day for No Ranking TODAY for CAPIC?
Has anyone heard from a CAPIC site today about not being considered for ranking?
I sure have not- I wonder how many of them actually follow that rule and contact applicants...
Just wanted to see if there was anyone on here going through round 2? I haven't heard back from a whole lot of sites yet...
