Rooting for you, @ADW1994!!!! How sad and frustrating that the first two you've heard from have been waitlists, but I'm glad they are not rejections! I'm convinced that these things keep on happening (plus all of the silence that so many of us are still facing at lots of schools!) just to test us a bit and make us even more grateful when it all works out in the end. 🙂 I'm so confident that you're going to have an amazing, successful future! Oh hey just saw this! I'm not too bummed about wait lists - I feel like it's rare to get accepted right off the bat, and more common to have to wait for things to shake out a bit. After all, a program that matriculates 10 ppl will probably offer 3-5 acceptances off the first interview week, and then another 15-20 over the course of the year... my NU email said they generally take 10-15 off the WL between now and March, and another 2-3 on May 1st. I'll worry in March.

@ADW1994 , what do you think?

My own opinion--they're often very different outcomes, so I think it would be nice to separate them somewhat. What if we used an "H" for hold instead of W. And, if we want to make things even more comprehensive, we could modify our entries later in the cycle with an R (rejected) or A (accepted) as necessary. I'm not sure we need a separate thread for holds.

I, too, am waitlisted. And I can't help but think the problem might better be solved by a match system among MD/PhD programs. Many top applicants (like all you rockstars) hold several acceptances, and many less savory applicants (yours truly, on paper at any rate) are waitlisted. I am not known for my patients. There must be a better way.

I am in shock and cannot believe I am sharing this with y'all tonight. I am SO CLOSE!!!!!! It really looks like I'll make it, if I just wait a tiny bit longer. I can't believe it.

UAB -- but the email said I am one of the top 5 on the waitlist and that based on previous years, there is an "excellent chance" I will receive an offer in the next ~2 months.

I am not completely celebrating yet and I am doing my best to be carefully reserved about it, but I have such an adrenaline rush from being so close at this point. I know all of us have worked really hard to even be applying today, and I am just so honored to be feeling like those efforts are going to pay off. I am so full of all of the emotions (sorry to anyone within a near radius of my school) and have been both devastated but also hopeful and also relieved, and mainly just in shock. I think I'm gonna make it... It's not there yet but I'm so close!!!
