  1. Pre-Medical
Sitting for the MCAT July 21 and won't complete my last prerequisite course of Physic 2 until Fall semester.
My question is how should I proceed with the process? I have all my LOR ready but won't be getting my MCAT score back till late August. Should I apply to one of my target school first to get my application verified then send out my application to the rest of my school of interest once my MCAT score come back?

A little background:
-Asian
-Two adorable kids (hoping to pull the adcom's chordae tendineae with their adorable pictures haha kidding)
-UG: Political Science
-cGPA: 3.00
-sGPA: 3.3
-Also, want to mention my gpa was at 2.7 after undergrad so it took quite sometime to bring my gpa up to 3.0 after majority of my prereqs
-Thousand of hours of work experience
-200 hours of clinical volunteer
-1000+ hour nonclinical volunteer (Tutoring, teaching Vietnamese and coordinating with church to feed the homeless)
-50 hours MD shadowing, 50 hours of DO shadowing (Internal Medicine and Family Medicine)
-Nontraditional student (early 30s)
-Grew up in severely underserved and low SES community which is rampant with gang violence and drug (some call it hood haha)
-I have major blemishes in my academic history. Full of Ws, Ds and Fs due to life circumstances and taking my high school vice principle graduation speech too literally claiming we should all attempt community college and if we don't do well it won't stay on our record. Guess she only meant for bachelor degree lol.
-I think my personal statement is very strong according to many of the physicians that I have asked to read and provide feedback
-My MCAT score will be approximately 503-507 base on my FL tests (1 of which is AAMC the rest are Kaplan)

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Is there a reason you're trying to apply this cycle? Your stats are pretty low. What is your post bacc GPA? I would maybe suggest apply the following cycle and taking some upper level science classes if you haven't already to make up for your stats and prove to med schools you can handle the sciences.

My post bac so far is 3.6.
With over 200 credit units completed I can't say taking more classes would even boost my gpa by much.

It’d be less about boosting your GPA and more about proving to medical schools you can handle the rigors of med school. How many classes has your post bacc consisted of? A 3.6 with just your base prerequisites is a little low... again, I’d take upper level science classes to show you have the chops to make it and make A’s. Also, I think you applying this year is a very bad move. IMO. You’d be applying late, without your coursework done, with an already weak academic history.

damn really? I was actually a little proud of myself for the 3.6 science courses along with working 50-60 hours a week. I thought it was pretty decent..guess I over valued my work haha. Thanks for the advice, I might have to reevaluate my plan then.

I’m not trying to discount what you’ve done AT ALL! And don’t just take my opinion as law... there are plenty Of people here who are more qualified than me. But, what I do know is that it behooves people with a lower GPA to apply early, and you would be applying quite late. I think that will hurt you. I also really think you would benefit from more upper level courses, but again don’t take my word as law! I’d also spend more time preparing for the MCAT as your projected score is kind of low for someone in your circumstance. What’s the rush!? Hopefully you’ll get some more responses on here

You can apply to a throw away school to get verified, but don't really start applying until you have your MCAT score. Frnakly, you'll have far more luck with DO schools an maybe your state MD school. Reinventors boning for the MD typically have much higher post-bac GPAs.

Yea I will be applying to mainly DO schools and some state MD. Just to test my luck if my MCAT score come back decent.
