I find these statistics wild because the Derm mean matched step two score was 257. And the match rate for Derm was 71% for the 2024 charting outcomes data. Derm is a better specialty than ophthalmology....

Ophthalmology has been one of the most competitive speciality for last several years, just SFmatch released very preliminary data all the while, to determine that as a fact. Now they have released very comprehensive data first time, is when people realized how competitive it has gotten over years. Work life balance, longer professional life over other surgical specialities, long term great compensation and very minimal stress , all these factor has made ophthalmology one of the most sought speciality.

how do you mean derm is better? both fields offer a nice balance of hands-on work and clinic work, entrepreneurship possibilities, and access to cash-based revenue streams. however, ophthalmologists are surgeons first and foremost which makes it more difficult mimic unlike "derm NPs".

This seems wild to me. Ophtho is relatively much better than most other fields in medicine but to be the most competitive field, overtaking derm, seems a bit exuberant to me.
