From the latest NRMP report, the data below are UNmatch rates for US seniors by Step I score.

Score / % UNmatched / # matched / # unmatched

0-190 25% 56 19
191-200 15% 120 21
201-210 9% 151 15
211-220 5% 228 12
221-230 4% 195 9
231-240 5% 144 7
241+ 2% 154 3

Most specialties I've looked at thus far - derm excepted - hit a zero unmatch rate at some step 1 score. Looks like EM pretty much plateaus above 210 with no level where matching is guaranteed.

Length of rank list plays a big role too - of the 475 people who ranked 10 or more programs, only 2 didn't match. Half of those unmatched (40/78) ranked 3 programs or less.

Yeah, but those with long rank lists were desirable enough to get a lot of interviews, so those that had short rank lists might not have had them by choice. 🙁 I guess the bottom line is to apply to more programs!
