guess we will be seeing a lot more SI joint fusions. Can we use this for ''failed back surgery'' as the diagnosis for getting the inevitable stims approved?

the question here is why did this particular procedure get such a huge increase in reimbursement

I thought SI-Bone was only marketed to spine/ortho surgeons

It was undervalued certainly for SI Bone. 9 units for putting 3 struts from lateral to medial across the si joint was not enough.

The robotic SIJs I’ve seen put the screws diagonally across it, don’t really compress it, and require a lot of revisions

Unfortunately, it creates osteoarthritis in the hips due to a gait disturbance and not neuropathic pain, so a stim won't save them.

That procedure was very popular about 25 years ago; people then found out it trashed the hips and it was abandoned for many years. Everything old is new again.

I have always asked- how is "SI joint instability" determined? Is that not the reason for a fusion? Nearly everyone has abandoned fusing "painful discs" in the absence of a slip or a couple of previous failed discectomies. Why in the world would someone want to fuse the SI joint?

Great. More people are going to suddenly need this stupid procedure.
Yes, now that vagus nerve blocks(-41.7%) have been pummeled... lol

And the multiple ICNB code. Now a single ICNB pays more than multiple INCB blocks! What in the hell?! That is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I'm just going to bill for three single ICNBs instead of one multiple ICNB that pays dirt

That seems like a lot for a procedure that is rarely indicated
Correct. And once it’s over utilized ( which is inevitable) the reimbursement will be squashed... same old story
