brett, you feeling good about the august MCAT yet?

APPLICATIONS: Primaries--$700
Secondaries--$800
Postage--$150 (Conservative estimate)
TRAVEL: Assume $400 per interview, approx.

MISC: $500

TOTAL: LOTS.

Assuming you want to apply broadly, you'll want to apply to over 15 schools, and assuming you get secondaries from all, you'll want to SEND secondaries to all. They're 50-100 bucks a pop, and you want to send them either priority or express mail, which is 4.00 and 14.00 respectively. You'll want to send your letter writers enough envelopes that they can send to every school you want to apply to, and assuming 4 writers X 15 schools, that's 60 letters, and you'll want to stamp them FOR them, so they don't have to pay for postage. Remember, they're doing YOU a favor. Also, remember that you have to pay for your transcripts to be sent to AACOMAS, etc. etc.

Ick.

applied 5 schools via AACOMAS - about $250
secondaries to 5 schools - about $300
interfolio.com for LORs - about $90(you get 2-3 free mailings and I sent at least on express with tracking)
traveling UMDNJ($50-70 gas and hella expensive tolls! DAMN!)
traveling UNECOM (cabs and airfare $500. visited 2 times. One ticket was free via frequent flyer miles)
traveling NYCOM ($40 ride from wife there and cab/train home)
cancelled PCOM and LECOM(got a refund from $90 amtrak fare to PCOM! Yes!!)
deposit UMDNJ $200 I think
NYCOM deposit $1500

spent untold fortunes at Men's Warehouse as I did not own a suit.

so about $2950 not including all the money spent at Men's Warehouse.

I understand that osteopathic school deposits are not refundable, whereas allopathic school deposits are? Also, why is the deposit so much more for osteopathic?

Not true. I was accepted into both and neither allo or osteo were refundable. (at least the schools I was accepted into)

Good point. 👍

And if may add, go into microsoft word proccessor and make address lables for each school. You can go out to Staples and buy a sticky paper where if you place into your printer, you'll be able to make a lot of really good looking address lables to place on the envelopes so the people writing you the letters will only have to seal the envelope. It makes things look professional and is easier for people to write you letters. (But I had some difficulty doing this at first because I did not know what paper type to buy. There are like 30 different types of sticky paper)

How much $$ will this cycle process cost me?? I am just wondering so I have a clue as to how much to save up for over the summer.

Applications: $ ___
Travel: $ ___
Misc. $ ___

I spent about 400+ on appllications (12 D.O. schools, two M.D.). Travel was the most expensive (thanks Bush man for the gas prices). Grand total, I spent 1500.00 on six interviews. I think I may be near the high end but I would say to save about 1500, give or take (it can get expensive once you start traveling all around the country).

I had no idea how much money I spent on this process..... I applied to ~ 10 D.O. schools and 4 M.D. schools.......I can't remember exactly how many. I spent $6500 on this round of applications. I applied last year as well.

Primaries = $880
Secondaries = $845
Interviews = $790
Letters and Transcripts = $84
Deposits to two schools = $3750

And I only went to 3 out of the 4 interviews I was invited to. My interview expenses were more expensive because there aren't many schools within decent driving distance of North Carolina....

It cost me 10k for all fees of applying to 34 MD schools including the airfare and lodging costs to Missuri and travel expenses to 2 other schools. If you add deposits, that's 11.5K. But it was a waste of money since I was only accpted at an osteopathic school (NYCOM). I could have bought a lot of booze with 10k 🙁

I wasn't on my home computer before: so updated exact totals here:

Primary fees: 640.00

Secondary: 690.00

Transportation: 1002.36

Total: 2332.36

I compiled this from the decision thread. This was before the interview season was over. You may want to check out the thread as not everyone was included in the final list.

Hopefulfuturedo~$2500
jbone~$5500-Md/DO 12 interviews
Jerseygrrl4 ($~325 - only applied to 1 school)
fozziewan ($~500)
Tara14 (~$2000)
kutiecg ($900)
drgreeneatutk (~ $1640)
Hoberto - $3000(as of 10-26-05)

I think I'm just going to bump that old thread.
