So I went to the pharmacy today to buy some cold/flu medication for my sick grandmother. I wanted to get an opinion on the otc medications. So I walk up to the tech, and I can cleary see that her badge says "pharmacy technician." I proceed to ask to talk to a pharmacist, and she tells me she is the pharmacist. In my mind I was like, puuhhlease your a tech! So I told her the symtoms my grandma was suffering from and asked what would be the appropriate medication since she is diabetic and has high blood pressure. She had the most dumbfound look on her face..Anyhow, she quickly told me to hold on, and then she got the pharmacist. But she tried to front like she just wanted a second opinion, and was indeed a pharmacist. Instead of wasting my time, she could have just gotten the pharmacist when I asked. My rant for the day.. sorry.

If I had to actually get the pharmacist every time someone demanded the pharmacist, nothing would get done. Literally 50% of the times people "need the pharmacist" one of our more capable techs can handle it and the upperclassman interns can handle another 35% so the pharmacist is really only needed 15% of the time. Look at her like a secretary screening phone calls.

true that WVUPharm. how is it that you tell patients that you could help them instead of gettin the pharmacists?

I usually just tell the customer the pharmacist is busy at the moment is there anything that I can help you with. Sometimes I can help, sometimes I can't...but I don't ever tell them I am the pharmacist 🙂

sometimes i say i am the pharmacy manager even tho i look 18 :0

This is an excellent way to get into a hell of a lot of trouble, especially if something bad goes down. I always get the pharmacist if they are asked for, then let them delegate the work if others can do it. Your career and license aren't worth it. (Won't be an intern till August)

Call me crazy, but I think undertow was kidding!

I personally don't agree with delegating conseling.

So true. Sometimes people just ask for the pharmacist for, whatever...

I always say, "I'm a pharmacy intern is there something I can help you with?"
