Hi guys,
Took the MCAT 6/16..not as good as I thought.

I'm not looking to take the MCAT again. All I really want is to get into an allopathic medical school - tier and ranking doesn't matter to me.

110 hours (so far) of doctor shadowing (85 pulmonologist, 25 thoracic surgeon)
Worked at last two of my university's health fairs

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, guys!

Unless you've got strong ties to South Carolina, I'd take those off your list. I applied to both this year and it was a complete waste. Despite USC and MUSC having decent OOS acceptance, each school's secondary application really hammers in about them accepting only a few OOS students... and of those, primarily only those with strong state ties or killer stats. It seems like the MUSC secondary actually says OOS students won't be reviewed until Nov/Dec for interviews. 👎

Just my $0.02. I just figured I'd save someone the $~60 just looking at the MSAR didn't save me.

That sucks to hear. I have an uncle that lives there, but I doubt that will make much of a difference. Thanks for the info.

Does anyone have any other ideas/opinions?

WVU and Marshall heavily favor WV residents, and if you're OOS they usually want you to be from a bordering state or have family ties to the state.

I'm not saying that applicants who are OOS and don't have ties/aren't from a bordering state don't get interviews, but it's less likely. I'd say of those 2 your chances would be much better at WVU compared to Marshall.

Also, having applied to Commonwealth (TCMC) myself and having interviewed there, you need to make sure that you can convince them that you'll practice in PA. Their class size is ~65 with the majority being PA residents.

I'd say, with your GPA being very good, apply to some other schools. Jefferson, Drexel, and PSU (from PA) are all very OOS friendly and your stats fall within their 10-90th percentile ranges for accepted applicants. The downside though is the high tuition.
