I'm not a big "threader" but since I got so much help from SDN while I was studying for the DATs, I figure the least I can do is put my two cents in about my exam.

Okay so today was the second go around at the DATs.
I thought it was a little easier than the first DATs, but the QR was RIDICULOUS. I saw some problems that I never saw in my life. And the bio was def a little tricky.
Also I did not study as hard for this one as I did for the first ones I took in July.

PAT: 21
QR: 17
RC: 21
Bio: 18
Gchem: 20
Orgo: 20
TS: 19
AA: 19

PAT: I thought the angles were a little tricky. I barely studied this section before I took my DATs. I took one Achiever PAT and thought it was much harder than the real PAT.

QR: They had some crazy trig stuff that I don't think I even learned in high school or college. I ran out of time here. I studied Kaplan and Destroyer.

RC: I didn't bother to study this section either, because I didn't think there there really was a way to. The passages were okay, but I had no tone questions.

Bio: Studied the Kaplan book religiously. I also studied Destroyer and Achiever and MCAT biology. All the questions in Biology section were stuff I saw once or twice before, but the answers to them were tricky. I guess just skimming through some of my texts were not enough.

Gchem: Studied KAPlan questions religiously as well as doing Achiever and Destroyer. Had a lot of calculations. But pretty straight forward.

Ochem: Studied only Destroyer. Pretty straight forward again, but one or two rare reactions...

Yeah all in all, I'm just glad that it is over. Now I can enjoy the 4 days I have left of my Winter break.

I'm applying this cycle though. Do you think that is good enough to get an invite to some of the schools I'm applying to? I realize that it is VERY late in the cycle.....I'm starting to get really worried. 🙁
GPA: 3.5
sGPA: 3.2
Schools that I'm applying to: UMD, VCU, Tufts, Temple, Pitt, BU, NYU

I don't think you'll have much of a chance getting in this cycle unfortunately. I think you should get your AADSAS in early this May and see what schools say!

third person saying that QR was hard and pat was ok. also BIO was tricky....are the exams all same or its just because its before the blackout dates?
i am taking it right after the blackout date😕😕 god knows what will happen

I'd apply to a few more schools just to increase your odds but assuming you have strong LOR's and good EC's you should be alright. Contrary to popular belief you don't need a 4.0 and 25+ DAT to get into dental school. The kids on this website and on predents.com represent an infinitely small percentage of the total applicants and matriculants. You're numbers are about average so I wouldn't worry too much.

And yes I agree, QR was utter BS. As if the test wasn't bad enough, you couldn't see a freaking thing with those stupid dry-erase markers and board. Give me a pencil and paper so I can atleast make out a decimal point without taking up half the side.

I don't understand why everyone is having trouble on QR. It is mostly high school algebra with a bit of trig. I'm sure most of you are very smart and have taken Calc in college. Maybe i got an easy one.

hey guys, enligthen me. please what do you mean taking it before the black out dates? when are they? is that a good thing or bad? and can anyone who recently took the dat give their opinion about the test and how they studied?
thanks. i am taking it for the 2nd time and am a bit worried.

oh poop
i really hope i get in this cycle. if not i guess i'll just make sure i apply extra early next cycle.
like i said before, i studied destroyer for organic, kaplan/topscore for biology, achiever for pat (much harder than the real deal), kaplan for genchem, and basically everything for qr (but it didn't help much).
