Ok, so I am reapplying again to ICO and I was wondering what I should do to strengthen my application. I called them up and asked em what I should do and they told me to retake my OATs and take some health science classes to boost my GPA. The only thing is, I am done with my Bachelors and I finished all the pre-reqs and recommended courses. I can't get into a Masters program for a year becuz a) i didn't take my GRE's and b) i don't know any masters program that is only for a year. I was thinking of retaking some classes that I got C's in, but is that a good idea? Also, what should I write in my essay the 2nd time around?

I'm applying to ICO this year too. What was your GPA if you don't mind me asking? OAT scores?
Also, if you haven't already you should call and ask the admissions office at ICO, they were very helpful when I called with questions. : )

My overall gpa was a 3.0 and my science gpa was 2.80. My OAT score was a310. I did call ICO and asked them what to do. they suggested that I take upper level science classes and take my OATs again. I am going to start studying for OATs again but I don't know how to strengthen my gpa cuz I am done with my bachelors.

come ppl, reply if you have any idea!:scared:

Maybe you can look at doing a post-bacc? Try to take some classes at a local university which offers upper level science classes..I think that would help..just my opinion..goodluck!

2I am also a reapplicant. I just got an email today saying that "there were positive aspects of my application, but it will be put aside till Nov".....
Can anyone tell me what that means...they also said I should submit any new info by then....

I'm a little worried, bc there really isn't any new info since I applied early Aug.

I did not take the OATs again, after being rejected last year.....

I got a TS 330
AA 340

should I take the exam again?

Some input would be greatly appreciated.

I think your OATs are good! Did you apply late last year? If you don't mind, can you share your ECs and GPA?

I actually just spoke to someone from the school, and she said its my sceince GPA...which I knew was the problem.....
and I did apply really late last year (on March 13).....

My cum GPA is 3.4 but scienc GPA is a 2.9....(really low, I know)

I was very active in 2 organizations (held executive board positions on both)

I also did research for 2 years in the bio departmen.

Ive been working in Optical since Jan. Ive also shadowed a couple of different Dr.'s

Here is my question....I know my science GPA is low, but I have taken every single bio class offered at my school. I graduated with a BA in psych, but I had enough bio classes to have gotten a BS in bio also....

Dont they atleast see that I have taken all the upper level classes and my low science GPA is due to getting C's in classes like biochem, orgo, and cell bio?

sorry....
Also, they said I should not take my OATs again, bc the committee thought my score was fine....I'm really confused...I really wanted to take it again bc I know I can do better...I literally did not study for it when I took it...should I take it anywayz?

I still don't know why they didn't invite you for an interview. Your science is still not too shabby. I mean plenty of people in this forum have gotten in with science GPA around 2.7-2.9 to ICO. You applied early this cycle too! Hmmm..

Yeah, I think you should retake your OATs since you have to wait till November anyways. What other schools are you applying to?

i think that you should enroll in some classes you got c's in and/or find some other sci classes you can take from somewhere that you can get a's in. also apply early but the problem is that nothing has changed yet b/c you didnt take any classes. if they said the oat score was good enough than dont retake it; i know at my school at least they have basic checks to get you an interview and if you are below them there is nothing that they can do.. so if at ico you need to have a min gpa in sci classes than you still wont get an interview this year w/o raising your gpa

i got the same thing last year from ico. i applied once the app was out but didnt get an interview until jan i think. to be honest, i think they put apps aside to see what else they can get, like someone better and more qualified which sucks. i didnt even bother going to the interview and went to a school that actually wanted me. i even had a masters in biochem. so for that particular school, im not really sure what else you could do. best wishes.
