I was wondering if there are ANY students got in med school with 3.0-3.2 GPAs and very high (35) MCATs.

I have a 3.1 and 35 mcat. I cannot afford to apply to just any school, your honest input would be wonderful.

Thank you.

You can totally get in with that type of score....as long as the other parts of your application are good too. if I were you, I'd take an extra semester and try to improve the gpa to 3.3.

don't worry. you can definitely get in. just look at our fellow SDNer exmike, who has the numbers as you and got multiple acceptances including case western.

my numbers are similar to yours and I have had more interviews then some of my friends....6 interviews in fact.

But I made sure that my LOR were superb, I have 2 yrs of research, tons of volunteer experience...leadership...blah blah blah... most people are smart enough to understand that it speaks volumes to your character than whether or not you made a C in calculus.

Yep! thats me. 3.1/35, 13 interviews, 5 acceptances so far.

I think its difficulate to choose schools wisely because some "lower tier" schools havent contacted me at all and several "reach" schools aka Case/Sinai have interviewed me. There are schools you should obviously not apply to like harvard and hopkins, but this process is such a crapshoot that its really impossible to predict who will like you and why.

You have a good shot at getting in med school. Good luck!

Crazyperson you say you are from NYC. Are u a NY resident?
If yes then i would say that with those stats you would have a decent shot at the SUNYs.

Good luck!

I wouldn't worry with those numbers. I know you're prolly concerned because there is an apparent discrepancy between gpa and MCAT but that happens to a lot of people, including myself. I tend to do MUCH better on standardized tests. I was really worried about my stats too but it panned out well in the end.

With numbers somewhat similar to yours, I got a bunch of interviews from top50 schools.
Also that gpa could have been a result of attending a competitive undergraduate institution??? I know some medschools take that into consideration.

good luck! You'll do fine! 🙂

One of my friends from college got into a few Texas schools with 2.9 or 3.0 and a 36 (with a 15 in PS!!). He was even waitlisted at Baylor. He is at UTSA and, yes, he's a texas resident.

were you that beyotch in the chat room last night?

if you aren't - i think that that is an acceptable set of numbers, just as long as you apply early to a lot of schools. Your state schools and some of the private institutions.

if you are - you wont get in anywhere, sorry.

How did you prepare for the MCAT? PM if you prefer but I think others would like to know too.

Two things:

Yes - others would like to know how you prepared.

ExMike - I am very impressed that you have received so many acceptances, congratulations for your hard work and persistant attitude. but didn't you do some kind of work beyond just a bachelors?

I took a term off to stuff my brain with nothing but mcat books...

6 months... all i did was eat, drink, shower, sleep mcat books... and swimming..

thats all... study and swimming...

yes, i did, i did a masters in public health. with a crappy ugrad GPA, you kinda have to do stuff after. and be persistent.

I have the 3.1 GPA (from Cornell. Let's go Red!) and a 37 MCAT (12V, 12P, 13B). I'm also nervous as hell this year since I was rejected across the board last year without interview. I spend every waking moment thinking about UMass (not to mention dreaming about them and Jessica Alba during non-waking moments) and that is what's motivated me to get that score and to improve my file with research the past year. So I definitely feel for you. If you don't get in... then you'll probably be in the same boat as I am. Just keep truckin. If by the grace of heaven and the soil of our blessed earth, UMass allows me to become a doctor, I will let you and everyone else on the eastern seaboard know.
Good Luck!
P.S. - For MCATs, I did almost every Kaplan question available and hiked in the white mountains in my free time (also full time job, but my production was reduced significantly).

please clarify--you were rejected w/o interview with a 37 mcat? or did you re-take to get that score?? was your app. weak in other areas? have you gotten any interviews yet this cycle?

please dont scare me like that... 37mcat an no med school... wtf

Sorry. Don't make any suicide plans yet. I had a 31 last year, my August MCAT came back a 37. So far I have had one interview (UMass) and one interview offer (Albany). Also I applied late last year, and did not put much care into my application ( I even forgot to include some clinical experience.) So hold tight, and I'll pray that all you low GPA ers get in, as long as you do the same for me.
