I'm an African American male at a top 10 school, double majoring in biology and history. My cumulative GPA is about a 3.2 🙁 and my science GPA is about 3.4. I have a few Cs, Ds, and a couple Ws. Downward trend towards the middle but finished with two ~4.0 semesters.

I have about a year of research in a cell biology lab.

I have my EMT certification and have worked about 100 hours in this role. Also have done lots of hospital/clinic volunteering. I have around 70 hours of shadowing, mostly non-surgical specialties.

As far as non-clinical volunteering, I have many hours as a tutor and volunteer at soup kitchens.

My MCAT score is 521 🙂

I'm president of a large pre-med organization at school, along with holding other various leadership roles.

I'm a resident of Texas

Do I have a reasonable chance at getting into a top 20 school?

Yes, but chances are best with the TX schools, including Baylor. Have HBCs on your list as well. Keep in mind that MD schools outside of TX know that very few Texans leave the Lone Star state!

Simply if you had to guess...if I apply to all top 20s do you think I'll get into one/a few? And do you think I should apply to all 20? What do you think my list should look like?

I think less than 30 African Americans out of over 10,000 African American applicants in the past few years scored in the top one percent, so your score definitely stands out. Your ECs look fine, and your GPA is low, but not horrendously so. Apply to a dozen top 20s, and there's no doubt (assuming you're a good interviewee) that you'll get into at least a few.

I would suggest applying to all your Texas schools, HBC's, and any top school you would prefer to attend over one of your Texas schools.
