Hi everyone,
I just received my MCAT score from April and I am bummed out since my practice exams were consistently in the 28-31 range. My score break down is 6PS 10VR 9BS. I was using the R format of the FL exams and the CBT (shorter) version put me in a panic during PS 🙁 I really don't want to retake if I have a chance of getting in by applying early with my current stats. Is the 6 a deal breaker?
I am thinking of applying to newer schools and those that do not pre-screen section score of 6. I desperately need your help in formulating a list of DO schools that I would have a shot at. Instate MDs are impossible with gpa and MCAT. My #1 school is DMU but I am quite certain I do not have a shot, unless someone that would know better thinks otherwise. My school list right now is KCOM, LECOM, NOVA, VCOM, Pikeville, Lincoln, Marian, Rocky Vista, AZCOM, Ohio. I am committed to becoming a physician so I am willing to apply to all DO schools, but I just want to trim the unnecessary expenses of applying somewhere I have absolutely no chance on. Are there schools that I should remove/add based on my stats? I would appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks in advance!
Pertinent Info: My GPAs are low due to dropping out earlier because of family issues and later on cancer while in school, but I have an upward trend of 3.5+ gpa last 90 credits. GPA calc includes retakes. MN resident, 2000+ paid clinical hours in hospital setting, 10000+ paid non-clinical hours, 80+ hours shadowing 2 providers (FP & Hospitalist), several semesters club leadership, summer research program, 300+ hours non-medical volunteer, 300+ hours medical volunteer, won several awards from healthcare employer related to community service work. Will start scribing part time soon and currently work directly with patients full time for behavioral-interventional study focusing on holistic model.
