Hi everyone,

I just received my MCAT score from April and I am bummed out since my practice exams were consistently in the 28-31 range. My score break down is 6PS 10VR 9BS. I was using the R format of the FL exams and the CBT (shorter) version put me in a panic during PS 🙁 I really don't want to retake if I have a chance of getting in by applying early with my current stats. Is the 6 a deal breaker?

I am thinking of applying to newer schools and those that do not pre-screen section score of 6. I desperately need your help in formulating a list of DO schools that I would have a shot at. Instate MDs are impossible with gpa and MCAT. My #1 school is DMU but I am quite certain I do not have a shot, unless someone that would know better thinks otherwise. My school list right now is KCOM, LECOM, NOVA, VCOM, Pikeville, Lincoln, Marian, Rocky Vista, AZCOM, Ohio. I am committed to becoming a physician so I am willing to apply to all DO schools, but I just want to trim the unnecessary expenses of applying somewhere I have absolutely no chance on. Are there schools that I should remove/add based on my stats? I would appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks in advance!

Pertinent Info: My GPAs are low due to dropping out earlier because of family issues and later on cancer while in school, but I have an upward trend of 3.5+ gpa last 90 credits. GPA calc includes retakes. MN resident, 2000+ paid clinical hours in hospital setting, 10000+ paid non-clinical hours, 80+ hours shadowing 2 providers (FP & Hospitalist), several semesters club leadership, summer research program, 300+ hours non-medical volunteer, 300+ hours medical volunteer, won several awards from healthcare employer related to community service work. Will start scribing part time soon and currently work directly with patients full time for behavioral-interventional study focusing on holistic model.

You could add SOMA, Touro-NV, ACOM, WVSOM, and Touro's new branch. I think you will have multiple interviews.

I have seen plenty of people on here with your stats get into DO schools...the 6 concerns me though. You should call all the schools you are applying to and ask about it.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I called several schools on my list and most said that they look at the whole application. I guess that would mean a green light for the application for most of my school list. Thus far only KCUMB flat out said that they won't accept anything below a 7, but I knew that already from their website I just wanted to make sure if they would budge since they would consider below the minimum MCAT composite and GPA requirements on a case by case basis 😛 DMU even said to apply, but I don't know if it's gonna' go anywhere. I looked into VCOM's website and I'm not so sure I would have even a chance since they have such heavy regional bias (based on 2015 profile), I have family in the area, but does anyone else think that applying there would probably net me a rejection due to my state of residency?

Does anyone else have any additions/subtractions from my current list? Thank you all!
KCOM, SOMA, LECOM, NOVA, VCOM, Pikeville, Lincoln, Marian, Rocky Vista, Ohio, WVCOM, Touros, ACOM, & DMU.

KCOM, SOMA, LECOM, NOVA, VCOM, Pikeville, Lincoln, Marian, Rocky Vista, Ohio, WVCOM, Touros, ACOM, & DMU.

Your list is similar to mine minus DMU and Rocky Vista... DMU, NOVA are reaches due to your stats...

I'm adding Western U-Oregon, PCOM (both PA & GA), Campbell, William Carey, & NYIT to my list to spread out my chances. The dean's letter at PCOM might be an issue because we did not have a premed advisor or committee and I'm a non-trad but I'm going to keep inquiring with the dean so I can get it ready by secondaries. Any thoughts on chances with the new additions to my school list? Does 21 sound like it's too much given my stats? Thanks again!

Summary:
KCOM, SOMA, LECOM, NOVA, VCOM, Pikeville, Lincoln, Campbell, Marian, William Carey, Rocky Vista, Ohio, WVCOM, Touro-NV, PCOMs, NYIT, Western U- Oregon, ACOM, & DMU.
Stats are 3.22 cgpa 3.36 sgpa 25 MCAT (6P/10V/9B)
