I am still debating between law and medicine but as many of you know there is an over supply of attorneys and their jobs can get boring and mundane. I have never considered medicine until after I got a BA in psychology with a 3.29 GPA. That GPA sucks but I partied too hard during undergrad and never really focused on it.

However, I would still need to go back and meet the requirements for pre-med. The only science courses I took were General Chemistry and Neuroscience. My father is a pediatrician and went to school in Europe which is where I am considering. He actually went straight after high school and was an MD by 24. He thinks that the med schools here are far too cut throat especially with the desperate shortage of doctors in our area. What are some of your thoughts/ recommendations if I decide on medicine? I obviously need to be competitive to even consider applying to medical school in the US but after reading posts from people with GPAs upwards of 3.6 getting rejected I feel a bit discouraged.

I think as long as you do really well in your premed classes (like mostly A's) and do good on the MCAT 28 or above, you will be fine and will get in somewhere. Med schools like it when you show improvement and tend to overlook the older grades (granted Harvard is probably off your list). I would stick it out here and see if you can ace your other science classes because if you go overseas you have to come back to the US as a FMG. And it becomes much harder to find residencies as a FMG. So although your father is correct it is pretty hard but doable, it is still easier than coming back as a FMG and having less options for residency. Really go for it, get good grades, volunteer doing something you really like (medically or outside of medicine not sure that matters as long as you like it), write a good personal statement, and get some good letters of rec and your done. Its a lot of work but well worth it, med school is awesome
