Thanks for taking a look!

Background:
Demographics: Asian, Male, OH resident (moved from NC), ESL
Undergrad: top-10 school, graduated Spring 2015, Neuroscience (BS) and Chemistry (minor)
Grad school: several semesters of a post-bac, currently finishing up an SMP
GPA: undergrad was a 3.32cGPA/3.12sGPA; post-bac sGPA of 3.89; projected grad school sGPA ~3.6
MCAT: 1st try Summer 2015 for a 509 (129/124/127/129); retook Spring 2017 for a 521 (131/129/129/132)
Research: 2 semesters in undergrad (bench work) then another 2 semesters so far at grad school (poster presentation plus expecting a publication this Fall)
Clinical Volunteering: intensive care unit for several years (300 hrs)
Non-Clinical Volunteering: Counselor at a free summer camp for at-risk youth (300 hrs); Habitat for Humanity (200 hrs); mentored and tutored kids from a single-parent household (refugee background)
Job-Shadowing: ~200 hours, 100 w/ a family doctor and 100 w/ a cardiologist; did shorter intervals with a pediatrician and at an emergency department
Work: Resident Assistant in undergrad; part-time medical assistant at an Urgent Care/Substance Abuse Facility (~1800 hours logged with strong clinical exposure to a socioeconomically-diverse patient population);
ECs: Student government for 3 years; exec positions at 2 different clubs (one cultural, one service); part of my school's cycling team (trained but never competed); peer advisor for mental health; did a summer program at a state medical school (which let undergrads sample MD-level coursework for 2 months)

Past Application Cycles: 2015-16 (no interviews) and 2017-18 (one interview and rejection). Received feedback from a few adcoms, who generally wanted to see a full year of an SMP GPA. The 521 MCAT will expire for many programs after the 2018-19 cycle, so I really want to make it count, and I’m willing to cast a wide net of applications to MD and DO schools, in addition to rewriting my essays.

Thanks a bunch for the replies! Will take a look at the new suggestions on the MSAR and also do more research on the DO programs.

Any recommendations on ECs or things do over the next year? Currently job shadowing at various sites and volunteering in a low-income neighborhood. Will likely scribe or work as a lab tech to help pay the bills.
