Where are you a re-applicant (asterisks)? What happened in last year's ap? What's changed in your ap? What's changed in your strategy?

OK, I have put an asterisk on all the MD schools that I did NOT apply to last cycle. I did submit a primary application for DO last cycle, but did not complete any secondaries because I was unable to find any shadowing.

Last application I had no shadowing, I did not have nearly as much clinical experience/volunteering, submitted a paper to a journal (hopefully will be published for update letters), took 2 classes and plan to take two more, and a few other involvements that I feel add to my application. I will also have a letter from an MD this time, which I did not have before.

Also, last cycle I submitted mid-July and was not complete at schools until September. I will be submitting today for this cycle. I have already submitted my DO application.

Thanks again!

You might consider these schools to see if they "fit" you:

Rush,
Virginia Tech (newer, research focus),
Wake,
Wayne,
Wright,
Oakland
VCU,
EVMS,
RFU,
Buffalo?

Thank you, I applied to some of these schools last cycle, but I will give them another look on MSAR.

Any tips to pass on to future "underdog" applicants from your experiences?

Work hard. If you are truly doing everything you possibly can to improve your application, you will have much less stress because you have given it your all. APPLY A.S.A.P.

I also met with my letter writers, since I hadn't seen some of them in years. I talked to as many physicians as would give me the time of day to get their perspectives and advice.

You can sleep when you get accepted!
