I was wondering if someone would be able to look over my list of schools, and tell me if I'm missing any low-tier schools that would be beneficial to apply to. Also, if I should remove any of the schools I already have on the list, because they don't accept any OOS students or any other reason. I have an outdated MSAR book, from 2006-2007, and all the stats are from 2004 applicants.

I'm a NY resident, with a 3.47 GPA from a SUNY. Taking the MCAT tomorrow.

My ECs are listed on MDapps: http://mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=8670

I'm South Asian, and I'm not sure if I should apply to schools like Howard/Morehouse or not? Would it be a waste of money, or will I truly have a chance?

Here's the list:

Albany Medical College
Drexel University College of Medicine
Eastern Virginia Medical School
George Washington University Sch of Med & Hlth Sci
Howard University
Jefferson Medical Coll. of Thomas Jefferson Univ.
Meharry Medical College
Morehouse School of Medicine
New York Medical College
Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Scien
State University of New York Downstate Medical Cen
Stony Brook University - School of Medicine (Only applying to this because it's so close by, their stats are out of reach for me)
Tulane University School of Medicine
Uniformed Services University of the Health Scienc (Do I have to join the Miltary for this or something?)
University of Illinois at Chicago-College of Medic
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicin

What is your projected MCAT?

Why the hell aren't you studying?

I burned myself out a bit the past few days, consistently taking full length exams. :\

It's hard to say what I'll get on my actual MCAT honestly, I've gotten anywhere from 28-29, 31-35, and 19 on the very last one I took. So who knows?

I may end up having some chance with these schools, or no chance at all depending on how I do tomorrow. I figured I'd still apply to schools with the lowest average accepted stats, maybe admissions will get bored and start doing it lottery style.

No offense but considering your stats it might actually be a little late for you to apply. Also, Uniformed Services is not just a simple medical school but a commitment to serve as a military doctor for a very very long time. You will be a member of the armed forces, no choice. Research thoroughly before deciding that. Nextly University of Illinois at Chicago-College of Medicine and Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine are both state schools. You will need an amazing score if you want them to consider your OOS stuff.

You have a shot, but I think its a little late now...

Not true regarding VCU.

I was accepted to VCU 2 years ago with a 3.6/33 MCAT

You have a shot, but you really might want to wait until next cycle. By then you can have your PS, rest of your primary, MCAT and LOR's ready to go at the very beginning of the cycle and likely get a lot of love from schools.

Advice:
1. Your list of schools is pretty solid, but if I were a NY resident I'd apply to all or most of them, provided the funds are there.
2. EC's look good, keep on doing what you're doing.
3. With the MCAT preparation: It seems like you're dedicated, which is good, but that you might be trying to do too much too frequently. You shouldn't be scoring in the teens after having gotten scores upward of 30. I know the test is around the corner, but a break might do a lot of good for you.
4. Know that a 3.47 IS NOT BAD. It's slightly below average, but it won't kill you, especially if you do well on the MCAT. If you take another year, you can get it even higher.

Overall, I think you've done pretty much everything save the MCAT to get into med school. The difference in a year is that applying now would put you late and quite possibly get rejected, while applying a year from now could result in multiple acceptances (provided you do well on the MCAT). In my own opinion, the application process is far too long and pricey to go at unless you're totally prepared.

True. VCU accepts a lot of OOS, so I don't think it's a bad choice.

You are certainly NOT too late and your GPA is fine. I know someone who got into Michigan with a 3.4, 33 MCAT so if you do well you have a shot at a great school. You will be ok, just add more schools to your list.

whats your BCPM? I'm in the same boat for overall GPA... My list is similar with a few stretches because of my Master's Degree and I know some people at Duke 🙂...

Maybe add Temple, and SUNY Syracuse and SUBTRACT uniformed services (new yorkers shouldn't do that to themselves....)
