I am graduating in 3 years and currently have a 3.48 GPA, but expect it to be at least a 3.5 when I graduate this May. I had a less than stellar freshman year but have shown a significant upward trend and am completing a medical biology major in 3 years. I took community college classes in high school and got a lot of humanities credits from that, so the 3.48 GPA is mostly math and science. I haven't taken the MCAT yet but I expect between a 32-35, from my practice tests. I'm taking a year off and applying for the 2011-2012 school year. I have about 500 volunteer hours as an EMT, as well as paid hours - I've had my license for 2 years now. I work in a bakery currently doing some cake decoration as well as baking. I've played the violin for 15 years and am in an orchestra. I'm going to be a TA for the biochemistry department, and also plan on going to a collegiate EMS conference. I expect some fairly strong recommendation letters as well. With some shadowing and more patient care hours, what can I expect my chances to be?

Thanks!

I'd say with those stats you have a very good chance at most mid-level schools, definitely. The extracurriculars are very nice, so those may make you more appealing to certain higher schools. Your GPA is your weakest stat by my estimation, although not bad by any means. If I could suggest any improvements it would be to get the highest GPA you can manage for this last semester, and shoot for the stars on the MCAT to show what you're capable of.

Good luck!
