Hi everyone, I've been a long-time lurker here on sdn. I'm applying this cycle and just received my MCAT score this morning. I'm hoping for some insight in regards to my school list!
cGPA: 3.5
sGPA: 3.48
MCAT: 500 (123/124/125/128)
State: California resident
Ethnicity: Filipino
Undergrad: University of California, Riverside
Clinical Experience:
- Hospital Volunteer: 200 hours
- ER Scribe: 700+ hours
Research Experience:
- 2 years in a genetics laboratory, research symposium presenter and STEM grant recipient for project
Non-clinical experience:
- Literacy Initiative: organization on UCR where we would help underprivileged students read. (mission to increase literacy rates in the inland empire)
- UC Neuro: outreach organization on UCR where we would bring sheep brains to elementary/middle/high schools in the Inland Empire to increase interest in STEM and neuroscience (we would design our own lesson plans etc.)
I have letters of recommendation from both MD/DO physicians I scribe for. I'm worried about my MCAT and was debating on retaking. However, after doing some reflection, I've come to realize that I am more fit for DO schools. I've come to develop strong interpersonal relationships with some DO physicians I've worked for and some of the physicians I idolize and strive to become are DOs.
School list:
UCR SOM
Oakland beaumont
Quinnipac
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
Should I add more schools to my list? I'm worried about having to apply twice (I would prefer to get in this cycle) which is why my school is pretty extensive.
Also, should I add any MD schools? What MD schools do I even have a shot at with my stats?
Thank you in advance for any insight!
Edit: What do you guys think are my chances of getting into Western Pomona which is my current dream school.
