Hi all, newbie poster to SDN here. I'm aware my stats are not extremely impressive but I am hopeful and if you could give some pointers I'd be super grateful.

-CA resident
-I would prefer to stay in CA, but I know MD schools here are very competitive. My other location preference is east coast.

Work/externship
-Gilead Sciences (R&D, 480 hrs)
-Genentech (Dept unrelated to medicine since August 2012, ~950hrs; LoR from manager)
-Research lab at UC Davis (since January 2011, ~1500hrs; publication in the works, LoR from PI)

Volunteering/internships
-Hospital internship (120hrs)
-Physician shadowing (20hrs; LoR from physician, who I also do research with at UCD)
-Overseas service trips (80hrs)

Extracurriculars/Etc
-Dance club member/fundraiser chair (~350hrs)
-Youth group member/leader (since 2004 ~3000hrs; LoR from director)

If it isn't too much trouble to ask, what schools would you recommend/suggest I apply to and/or how many? I already have a list going, but I would like some suggestions based purely on my stats/experience. Please let me know your thoughts! 🙂

You should be fine for any of the low-tier MD schools, or any DO program, including mine.

Suggestions include

ALL new MD programs in NY, FL, PA, VA, CT and MI.

SLU
NYMC
Rosy Franklin
Loyola
Creighton
Rush
For CA, you have WesternCOM and Touro-CA. Plenty of COMs on the East Coast.

i have similar stats as well:

~3.5 gpa and am hoping for a 31-32 MCAT score.

i was wondering if USC Keck is a possibility assuming my ECs and LORs are great.

if not, what MCAT score do you think i'd need to hit to be considered by Keck?

don't get much hope for CA schools, expand your list to at LEAST 25-30 schools all over the country and you will be fine hopefully.
