I'm coming up with a list of schools to apply to and trying to figure out what is realistic.

About me:

- CA resident
- Re-applicant. I applied last year and interviewed at one school, but didn't get in. I applied pretty late in the cycle, so I'll definitely be changing that this year.
- Advanced Spanish proficiency (minored in Spanish and studied abroad in two spanish speaking countries)

33 MCAT:
10 Bio
10 PS
13 VR

Clinical Experience
400 hours clinical volunteering/medical observation
100 hours shadowing in various specialties
Scribing work full-time (500 hours at time of application submission)

Research
poster presentation of 2-year research project in global health with an accompanying undergraduate thesis. No publication.

Volunteer
~100 hours in tutoring
~30 hours other activities (park clean-ups, blood drives, etc)

Leadership
Fraternity president
Leadership positions in several clubs throughout undergrad.

Gap year activities
Full time work as lab technician in an analytical laboratory for a large winery (july-jan after graduation)
Travel (february-march)
Full time work scribing (beginning in April)

Here's what I have for a list so far:

Medical College of Wisconsin
Quinnipiac University
OHSU
UCSD
UCI
UCD
Vermont
St Louis
Tufts
BU
Albert Einstein
Albany
Rush
Western Michigan
Tulane

Are these schools realistic with my MCAT/GPA/Extracurriculars?

Thanks guys!

I recommend that good CA applicants (like yourself) apply to at least a dozen OOS schools where they have at least a good chance of an interview. On your list I count about nine. Delete OHSU. If SLU, why not Creighton and Loyola...
How many of these schools will be re-applications?

Thanks for the reply. Of the list above, Quinnipiac, MC of Wisconsin, the UCs, and Rush would be re-applications. I'm actually going to take SLU off the list. What do you think about adding George Washington, New York Medical College, VCU, Georgetown, and Wake Forest?

NYmed: 12K+ aps; GT and GW: 13K+ aps. VCU and Wake are fine.
Have you really looked at the MSAR?

Yeah, I've been using the MSAR. It's just tough finding schools that accept a significant number of OOS, have a low total # of applications, and that my scores are competitive for.

I wonder about some of the public schools with relatively few applicants, for instance Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, etc. Is it worth applying to any of these? The MSAR reports that they accept OOS applicants, but I wonder if they are mostly from surrounding states or have strong ties to these states.
